Understood Reveret123, and sometimes it is over-exposure; I have been posting too much (Mirapex side effect) and as I do in real life, tend to come at things from a different angle, on purpose, and for a reason. But surely there must be room for a few crazy uncles in the attic. I don't see how we are under-mining the tech-oriented serious discussions.

iAlmost always, problems originate when people try to control what other people say. It never works.

Are we gathered just to talk about PD? Or to also support one another in the experience of having or living with PD??
Who is proselytizing here? I don't read every post nor even every thread, but I am interested in other people's views, including yours, Jean. I'd hate to think, though, that you were trying to convert us all to your way of thinking. I'd also hate to think you were singling out Christians. Let's change our vantage point for a moment. Satguru Sivaya Subrammuniyaswami warns, in his introduction to Dancing with Siva: Hinduism's Contemporary Catechism that Quote:

Jean, you wouldn't be able to cut off my spirit and separate it from the rest of me than I would be able to remove your heartfelt smile from your advocacy work. And again, I don't see sharing one's full self as aggression toward others. Quite the opposite. I say all this to promote understanding among us, but I don't need to understand you to respect you, and so I will continue, in my quirky way, to try to help bring tolerance to our community, as so many do. With respect to everyone who reads here or posts, there are forum rules, as stated by DocJohn & Chemar. It is as simple as that.
- Posts of a mostly religious nature should be made to the Spiritual Support forum

I was the first person I ever met who has Parkinson's. I had never heard of it. They gave me pills. I did not look for information about PD. . I knew a little thing in my brain was not making enough chemicals. So they gave me chemical pills to make up the difference. And they tried different pills. It was, I knew, a chemical problem.
But I was looking for Parkies to talk with and i found a lot here and so I came in and my old dancing buddy, puzzles me with this: My Current Blend: Multivitamin - B Complex - Alpha Lipoic Acid - Acetyl L Carnitine - L Carnosine - Turmeric - Fish oil - Ginseng - Ginkgo Holy cow! Where did this come from? Amazing, sort of like stealth research going on underground. Civilians with no resources doing research because the system had failed them. But that's your current blend. My current blend is much more out-to-lunch than yours. But your blend works for you. But my blend works for me. And then on the site there are those who hate the pills I came in praising, until I saw by reading this site that I was wrong, and I was so angry about Amgen and sinemet shortage and the 31% of research papers falsified; I started taking runs at Pharma. And that it what this is about, isn't it? Not the jokes. So I hear all these stories about the different ways people are handling this, but then I find out that my way of handling it - including my intrusive heckling - is not one of the permitted ways of handling it. Humor and passion and spirit or faith or whatever you call it. And wow, I won some serious battles with my current blend. But I get told that my current blend is ruining the party for everyone else and so I should go to some church or drug-rehab place or somewhere, and be with my own kind; a place where there are no Parkies for me to talk to. If I want to talk the way I talk, I get told to go do that somewhere else because I am scaring the horses. I saw this movie before. |

The guideline apparently needs a bit of interpretation, so here goes... Posts that are primarily about religion or spirituality should be posted in the Spirituality Forum (that's what it's there for).
Posts about PD, that may mention someone's relationship with their religion, religious support or praying, are all allowed here, as long as the primary focus is PD or coping with PD. The guideline is primarily to stop people from engaging in primary religious or spiritual discussions outside of the spirituality forum, not to stop people from expressing their faith (or lack of faith) in any particular brand of religion or spiritual belief. Let's be respectful. We don't have to agree with other's spiritual beliefs and if we constantly find a poster who mentions religion and it bothers us, use the Ignore tool -- that's what it's there for. Thank you for this opportunity to clarify and for your continued support of NeuroTalk. Best, DocJohn

Not being a religious person myself I don't really have a dog in this hunt except to say that I know a number of people who are profoundly religious and asking them to sever their feelings about PD from their feelings about their faith is analogus to Shylock's direction to get his pound of flesh without spilling any blood.
I am surprised that anyone cares how someone else manages to cope with thid disease. I would perfer proselytizing be left at the door out of respect for those with different views but I don't see where stating "I receive comfort from my Christian faith" is any different from saying "I don't receive comfort from faith" or "I received comfort from Tai Chi." We all have learned methods for daily living with chronic illness, I thought this is where we share them. |

But I do recognize that some of the veterans here feel that some of us new-comers have been using up all the oxygen in the room; some, such as I, have been eating up the bandwidth in what I swear is a compulsive addiction frenzy. Some of us will attempt to realize that it is not engraved in stone that we must comment on each and every item.

Dear person, Bob, you are more welcome here than you could possibly know. You're being you, and that's a good thing, and you're here, and you belong as much as I do. All the 12-year people have been "here" for longer than I, but I'm as valuable as they are. Some of the "old ones" seem to be missing, someone observes from time to time Well, honey, that's because they have Parkinson's Disease, and they get old and tired, and we hear from them infrequently and then not at all, and that's because they have to cope with more and more, with fewer and fewer resources, and then we don't hear any more, unless we're lucky and some kindly relative lets us know what happened, for example, a heart attack or stroke that spared them a few more long years with PD. Back to the present. You have PD. So do I. We have that in common. Keep me company, please. Sometimes I feel so alone, it would take a million friends to comfort me, and there aren't many who understand. Stick around, fella. The good news is the same as the bad news: you're one of us.
And thanks, DocJohn. It's always a pleasure to see you among us. Jaye |
