Lurking,

i repost my updated protocol...each protocol is individual, depending on the age, weight, and and height of the PD patient...

so the best way would be to get an appointment with a Neuro who does Nicotine therapy,i know these are very rare for the moment unfortunately

you have to begin GRADUALLY
gradually is essential,i insist on this,if you start or switch at a too much high dose,it will not work properly
i am taking 24h patch,my brand is Nicopatch, but any brand should work

to enter the protocol, you must be on levadopa drugs .
I am on sinemet 100/10 .I take 1 pill 3 times/day presently.
you must NOT TAKE THIAMIN (vitamin B1 ) supplement ,as it would interfere with the nicotine.eating red meat is also a big No-no .
the patches have to taken everyday & for the rest of your life. (so this is not a cure but a treatment).
It seems it might be a Cure now .
it takes about 9 months ti get some visible improvments, for some people less than 9 months

Here is the protocol they gave.
to respect the timing and graduality is crucial
you must patch yourself on a different part every 24 h
those parts are :under your belly button ,on the right, then the following day left, then the following day in the end of your back on the right, then the following day on left
you must change your nicotine patch every 24 h
Nicopatch was the brand recommended, but just because of the dosage

first 3 months : 3,5 mg nicotine patch per day (so you cut a 7 mg patch in half )
month 3 to 5: 7mg "" "" "
month 5 to 7 :10 mg " " "
then 14 mg for 6 months
then 17 mg for next 3 months
then 24 mg for the next 6 months
then 31 mg since one year for me

Some patients do go up to 84 mg...which is not my case

you have to put the patch on those 4 areas and switch from area every day,

recommended patching area (for a quicker absorption, they told me ):

under the belly button,on the right and on the left
at the end of your back( at the end of your spine ),just above the butt,on the right and on the left

do not take any thiamine (vitamin B1 ) supplement as B1 will counter effect the nicotine

better to patch in the morning ,after your bath or shower

yes,you will have some sleep problems, especially when you switch for a higher dose
right now i do sometimes, but not every time take off the nicotine patch before to go to bed and i take melatonine supplement (currently 4 mg/day )

Pr Villafane did not recommend any specific diet or other supplements, but i did notice that i am doing better on my vegetarian days, and i do take about 4x3 grams of vitamin c every day (vitamin c seem to make my sine met last longer,is excellent for brain connections and makes my skin looks splendid ; )

kind regards

i wanted to add that the Nicotine patches do ameliorate PD patients, whenever their age (even if you are in your 60's,70's even older ) but it is not recommended if you have a weak heart .
it works the very best for early Stages, but if you are ill and on meds since a long time,it will improve you too.
Personnally,i am 43,6'1 and 80 kg .
i wad diagnosed 9 years ago (then my pd was almost invisible ) and i deeply regret that i did not start it early,as i might have never developed it .
i was on Requip (such horrible memories with Agonists ) for the first 6/7 years and started Sinemet ,2 years ago at the similar time i started the Nicotine .

there is a gp29 site (google it ) in french ,with a topic about the Nicotine treatment, more than 70 people are relating their results with nicotine and ALL of them improved !!
Even a testimony of a man who gave it to his 82 years old mother, she could not quit her bed,was very ill and he decided, against his Neuro's will, to give it to his mum,as there was nothing much to loose .
and she did improve

contact info for Dr. Paneri

Do you have contact info for Dr. Paneri? Will he take patients at a distance?

you have to follow a particular diet (very important !)and take herbal pills ,sent from his ayurvedic clinic in India
there's 6 different herbal pills to take ,so it's not just about Mucuna .
I started since 6 weeks his method
I sleep better,my shaking has reduced a little and my neverending fatigue is gone! not bad for 6 weeks
I've lost 16 pounds also.
I am taking Azilect ,
he didn't ask which "western" drug i was on,but told me that i could take his pills with my occidental pills

I would just like to add something to the dialogue about nicotine.

I hope if anyone here is interested, they would only proceed with
a doctor's supervision. Some people lack the liver enzymes to properly handle Nicotine:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15734728

Nicotine may interfere with other drugs as well.

Nicotine for CNS problems is not new. At one time a metabolite of nicotine called cotinine, was researched as a possible treatment for ADHD in children.

Here is the Wiki on it:

Soccertese,

On the Clinical Trials site it indicate study completion May 2013. Does anyone know why patient height is a factor in dosage?

volume of distribution:

I believe that because nicotine is potentially poisonous, and has a narrow therapeutic index, that determining doses uses
algorithms involving height and weight.

This is math, but the concept involves how much drug distributes in the volume of the body tissues:

In this study there are probably target concentrations, and those would be standardized as much as possible.

I'm going to try the nicotine patch today.

I'm on a bad week, so I'm going to see if this therapy works. No guts , no glory.

If you are going to try this, be very careful... Nicotine can interfere with other drugs:

Here is a drug checker:
http://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/nicotine.html

Not all databases have 100% reliable information, as this
changes with time as new things get reported.

You really should have a medical doctor supervise the addition
of nicotine to your drug regimen.

Some people have genetic differences in the enzymes that metabolize
Nicotine. In these people, it might build up in the body, and become toxic.
