excerpt from link above:
A trial is underway at University College London Hospitals in UK to establish whether the drug 'Exenatide' could be used to treat patients with the progressive neurological condition. A synthetic version of this drug, originally found in the saliva of the Gila monster, is already an approved treatment for patients with diabetes. However, laboratory evidence suggests it could also arrest the neurodegenerative process that causes Parkinson’s disease - potentially leading to a cure. Four independent groups around the world (including colleagues at the School of Pharmacy, London), have shown that this drug can improve symptoms of Parkinson’s and rescue dying cells in five different rodent models of the disease Oh yes; I will rush right down to Mexico and try this treatment (NOT!) Fiona, note those "dying cells. Oh, if only we were rodents. Peg" |

I will definitely ask my doctor about adding this when I see her next week. She loves when I ask her about novel treatments. Her first question will be what dosage shall I prescribe. LOL As long as there's no cure, I say don't rule anything out.

Actually, this one is very promising. I've been following it for a couple of years

Isn't Exendin the same thing as Byetta, the diabetes drug.
I think CPT has been looking at this too. |

Exendin-4 is the natural form found in the gila monster. Because of the obvious difficulty in smoking a gila monster (they are impossible to keep lit, just ask Tom Isaacs )as well as problems with enzyme degradation, the other forms are synthetic mimics but not exact duplicates.
The original research touted the anti-PD effects of stimulating GLP-1 receptors in the brain. When it was found that Ex-4 could do so (and lead to a patentable product) things zeroed in on it.
