Default New (?) website extolling large daily doses of vitamin D3 to prevent, and TREAT, PD

I'm newly-diagnosed and quite interested in this large-dose approach to vitamin D therapy.

Among a large amount of other content, the site includes a 2010 article from Harvard University citing, with apparent approval, and for broad-spectrum health, a daily dose of 10,000 IU vitamin D3 along with balanced "cofactors". On an ongoing basis!

PD is specifically covered and there is even a "prediction" of substantial improvements in symptoms following 3 months of daily dosage at 10,000 IUs!

Any comments or experiences to share?

Apparently, Psychecentral rules prohibit references to linked sites until a member has posted 10 times ... and this is only my first!

Thanks!!

I have a friend with MS for 27 years, had taken Vitamin D3 without any noticeable effect a few years ago. She is now taking it, but with the addition of Vitamin K, and is looking good, much better than she has been for years. I only learned this a few days ago, so do not know the rationale behind the addition of Vit K, but will find out and post. I may try this myself, especially if I can make some headway with V B12 issues which are plentiful right now.

Default Vit D3 and K2

Vitamins K2 and D3
When supplementing with vitamin D, your body's ability to absorb calcium is greatly enhanced. Since many people already receive a good amount of calcium through diet - with some people supplementing calcium in addition - an optimal vitamin K intake is essential when supplementing with vitamin D.

Vitamin K-dependent proteins in the body act as potent inhibitors of vascular calcification. So adequate vitamin K will help to ensure calcium ends up in bone where it belongs, instead of calcifying various soft tissues. 27 28 29 30 31

Bone health benefits from both vitamin D and K as they work together, aiding in proper bone formation and maintaining bone density. 5 32 33 34 Both BMD and bone mineral content (BMC) have exhibited significant and sustained increase. 35 36

Thanks, Olsen, That is exactly the reason she gave me, but I forgot. She said she can feel the difference with it.

Default Vit D3 and K2

And thank you for bringing the need for Vitamin K2 administration with D3 to my attention. I remembered high dose Vit D could result in kidney stones, that Vit D mobilized Calcium leading to these stones, though I did not know Vit K2 would help prevent this. My husband developed kidney stones after taking a second dose of 50,000IU of Vit D3. He continues to take a much smaller dose of 2,000IU/day. I will now add Vit K2 thanks to your post. madelyn

I think K is found in abundance in kale...which Dr. Wahls eats copious amounts of. Someone told that kale is a "goiteragen" unless cooked well (kinda hard to eat otherwise), so watch for that.

Default vita K query

As an adjunct to vita D therapy, what's the recommended dosage of vita K? And does it matter which form -- K1 or K2?
