(again, as though each of us does not have more than enough to do, perhaps one may be interested in listening to this professional discuss pharma industry's tactics for future blockbuster sales. I am assuming the program is accessible in the US, though not certain of that fact. Her book is available. madelyn)
Sex, lies & pharmaceuticals: How drug companies plan to profit from “female sexual dysfunction” With Dr. Barbara Mintzes, co-author of the new book by the same name Tues. Dec. 14, 2010 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pacific (12:30-1:30 p.m. Eastern) The Canadian Women’s Health Network welcomes drug assessment specialist Dr. Barbara Mintzes to discuss the medicalization of women’s sexuality by pharmaceutical companies. Mintzes will look at the ways women’s sexual difficulties are being repackaged as symptoms of a disorder called “female sexual dysfunction” in order to feed a marketing machine that promises to “cure” it. Mintzes will use examples from her research for Sex, lies and pharmaceuticals to demonstrate how global drug companies are exploiting the exploration of women’s sexual dissatisfaction in an attempt to create the next billion dollar disease. Mintzes is an Assistant Professor at the UBC Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, part of the UBC Centre for Health Services & Policy Research, and a Steering Committee member of Women and Health Protection. Please email info@cwhn.ca to register. Space is limited - reserve your place today! The webinar is free of charge and open to the public. This is another good expose book:
The Truth About the Drug Companies by Marcia Angell, MD (who used to be the editor in chief of New England Journal of Medicine). It reveals how R and D no longer really exist in Big Pharma, which has become mostly a promoting entity. Research arm is now more commonly done in NIH or Univ. settings and the drugs discovered there are leased by Big Pharma who creates a dosage form and advertises and promotes (sales force). -development.

.....sigh.....why are women always way behind the men in drug research. We have seen it with cardiac meds (women are not treated as aggresively as men when it comes to cardiac infarcts, disease) and research has always focused on the male. When an old goat can't "get it up", he has choices in a line of ED drugs. Maybe they can come up with a drug that "re-programs" the male, sparing the women from having to take "de-frigid" drugs. Whatever happened to open communication and "working" on it. We all want a "fix it" pill for every ill - legit or perceived. For every snifffle, we demand from our doctors an antibiotic - look at where it has gotten us now - MRSA, necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria), superbugs, etc. Big Pharma deserves some bashing but we, the customers, need to recognize our lust for drugs and drive up demand. Personally, I consider the most powerful and least expensive drugs are NUTRITION, SLEEP and EXERCISE. We do have choices and by declining a drug, we help stop the "pharma feeding process". Thru diet and exercise, we can prevent obesity, hypertension and diabetis, heart disease, etc. but that requires work........we'd just as soon pay for a little pill to take care of it.
I think I will go watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles featuring Steve Martin and John Candy.....did I mention laughter is the best medicine. TG |

PPPPPssssssttttttt!
Any gals here who would like a simple enhancement of intimate enjoyment, might want to try l-arginine supplements for a short time orally. They increase nitric oxide just like viagra. (and I know this works, because it works for ME). Also Dr. Oz had a show this week on antioxidants.... he said there are new studies showing BEETS contain a compound that increase nitric oxide too! (for sexual enjoyment as well as improving blood flow to the brain etc.) Watermelon also has high levels of citrulline, which is converted to arginine in the body. This is the primary doctor who did the research on NO... http://www.drignarro.com/

ppppppsssstttttt again.... works for men too! But larger doses may be needed.
However, If you are on blood pressure meds, or have medical reasons to not use nitrates (like you already use viagra or one of its cousins), then you need to consult your doctor, before trying arginine. Sorry Big Pharma... the secret is out!
