Default Roche breaks with reMYND.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/...6861AL20100907

This was the alliance between Roche and reMYND. Now, it turns out Roche recently broke the alliance. Good thing MJFox keeps funding the clinical trials.

I looked up for more information from reMYND. I must say I am a little bit upset with Roche for breaking the alliance. Expectations from this med are quite high.

Preclinical tests were very promising. In relevant animal models PD progression was even fully stopped !!! Givin the fact that this med is designed to target (one of) the main cause(s) of PD I think Roche should be ashamed for breaking the alliance.

GET USED TO IT
sorry to yell
pharma is not about patients, it's about money and who is championing the treatment. or studying the wrong treatment, wasting money. Rather than feeling shame, Roche may be applauding its' business acumen.

Default Yep...

kind of brings to mind the MJF comment about who is in charge of finding cures and finding a big black hole. As we stand there is no discernible government or international leadership and we are left to the whims of the free market. This has got us to where we are today.

What is the last thing we cured, actaully cured, not improved treatment or prolonged patient life expectancy. Perhaps Polio in the 1950s or 60s ? Pretty poor testimony of the current pharma ecosystem.

Neil.

Default Sorry Jim ...

didn't realise you had asked this question a couple of years ago, see :

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread115774.html

Still gives me the opportunity to post my 500th post. A breakdown of Aftermathman's 500 posts shows:

175 - sports related drivel and laughing at Americans who think New England playing New York in the Super Bowl represents international competition and provides world champions.
200 - general moaning and feeling sorry for myself.
100 - some actual PD content (not altogether useful).
25 - Some actual PD content (useful).
1 - Complaining about my maths.

Still, eat my dust all you "less than 500'ers" and take care,

Neil.

True and I do realize pharma only wants to make profits. On the other hand, science maybe was not advanced enough to really cure PD and the other neurodegenerative diseases. DNA alaysis used to cost a lot of money and time. But recently this technology has matured a lot. Also knowledge about PD has increased significantly. I do believe that these neurodegenerative diseases are going to be cured in a not too far away future. If I see all these studies about growth factors, alpha-synuclein targeting meds, stem cells ... these things sound more than just promising. They even sound trustworthy. I don't think 10 yeas ago these techniques could have been possible for mankind. Science was not advanced enough.

Though in this case I am really dissapointed with Roche. I would like to know why they broke the alliance. I didn't find the reason. The good things is that they let reMYND keep all the data and results that were collected during their alliance. Good thing there is an organization like the MJFox foundation. In the coming weeks I will send them some money, for the first time. I think the foundation is doing a great job and they deserve to be sponsored as much as possible.
