Nocardia asteroides strain GUH-2 induces proteasome inhibition and apoptotic death of cultured cells Auteur(s) / Author(s) BARRY Daniel P. (1) ; BEAMAN Blaine L. (1) ; Affiliation(s) du ou des auteurs / Author(s) Affiliation(s) (1) Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine, University of California, Davis, CA 95616, ETATS-UNIS Résumé / Abstract Many bacterial pathogens have the ability to induce apoptosis in their hosts. It was previously shown that Nocardia asteroides strain GUH-2, a Gram-positive facultatively intracellular pathogen, is capable of inducing the apoptotic death of dopaminergic cells in the murine brain and in PC12 cells, a rat cell line http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=18539100 ________________- Nocardia asteroides: An Infectious Etiological Agent in Parkinson's Disease Several studies suggest that Parkinson’s disease can either be familial or sporadic; however, only five percent of the patient population is classified as the familial type. This indicates that most cases of Parkinson’s disease are associated with exposure to environmental factors. Chemical agents such as pesticides and the synthetic molecule 1- methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) have been established as dopaminergic neurotoxins that can be potential etiological factors for the disease. In contrast to what is known about chemical agents, it is still not clear whether Parkinson’s disease can be elicited by infectious microorganisms. http://www.mcmp.purdue.edu/seminars/...suabstract.pdf
