I thought I'd share information about this upcoming webinar on biomarkers. It isn't hosted by MJFF (but rather Science magazine), we are simply moderating and helped create the panel. And please note, it is directed toward a scientific, not lay audience. Additionally, there is a registration fee of ~ $220 that is paid to Science magazine...I mention all this as disclaimers but I still wanted to post since I appreciate that some portion of this audience seeks out these types of sessions and I'm not sure if you'd naturally be aware of them. Details and registration link are below.
You are invited to view our panel of experts on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, in a live, online educational seminar, "Early Detection of Parkinson's Disease: The Challenges and Potential of New Biomarkers." Date: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 Time: 12 noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific, 4 p.m. GMT, 5 p.m. UK Duration: 1 hour This Webinar is organized by Science/AAAS and Science Translational Medicine, in association with the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The Webinar will be moderated by Dr. Todd Sherer, Chief Program Officer of the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and will include Norbert Schuff, PhD, Michael Schlossmacher, MD, FRCPC, Andrew Siderowf, MD, MSCE and Kenneth Marek, MD. During this Webinar, the distinguished panelists will: • Explain the need for biomarkers for detecting early PD and how these biomarkers can be used in drug development and clinical trials • Provide an overview of promising new biological and neuroimaging markers • Discuss the challenges and bottlenecks in the development of new biomarkers for PD and the role of the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI). Register now and submit your questions LIVE to the experts during the webinar! Early bird discount is available if you register before March 25, 2011. Debi, has anyone ever looked at CRP levels (C-Reactive Protein) as a possible marker for PD? I know some people say there is an inflamation link, and I believe CRP is the primary indication of inflamation. I ask because in the years preceding my diagnosis, my CRP levels went through the roof. How can I pass on this suggestion to the right people? Thanks.
