What's even more interesting is that another pharmaceutical "super-off-label-good-for-everything-from-bipolar-to-nonspecific-pain"...aka:yesterday's "Neurontin"...carbamazepine, is implicated in another iatrogenic mess. Non-mistake-related drug reactions have been estimated to be at the cause of twice the number of deaths in the US than those from automobiles. That's roughly 3 9/11's a month.

Back in the "old days" (early 70's) we used to "joke" that Geigy drugs were all toxic. Phenylbutazone was a fast mover...before NSAIDs were developed. Tegretol was hardly used at all back then. Mostly for Trigeminal Neuralgia and 3rd line for seizures. Times have sure changed. (and Geigy is gone and incorporated into Ciba)
No longer in US for humans, but does find its way into Chinese products and herbs for arthritis now and then illegally here.

I continue to think our best hope is to nationalize the pharmaceutical industry. and I am not for Big Government. Just think the government could not do any worse and at least we can pretend the government has to answer to the citizens.

Dad w/PD has upped his Mirapex for RLS sx per his Dr. ( I thought he was totally off of it) but his main issue is dozing off randomly when home & quiet in the house.

at times my husband is unable to tolerate oral magnesium (cannot discern the reason). at those times he uses a topical form of magneium oil. it's a guess how much he is getting though there are levels noted on the label. it seems to help him; it certainly helps with my leg cramping (I am a caretaker, not a patient)

In Remembrance

Several years back I had a neighbor who had severe restless leg syndrome and a severe immune deficiency. Although I didn't know her there, she was living in Hawaii and drank the pesticide contaminated milk that I did. Not only did it do the above to her, while she was taking mirapex for RLS, she developed a gambling habit online - would spend up to $400 a week. She does not have pd, but a host of other problems.
