Default melatonin: good or bad for pd?

I seem to find many opposing view points on this topic. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

In general when I start messing with hormones of any kind I have had issues that made me wish I had not tried it including melatonin. I had suddenly many issues with thyroid, cortisol, estrogen, etc It did not help me fall asleep. I have very scary issues with sleep eating/cooking/walking when taking ambien so I've settled on guided meditation or soundscapes on my beside ipod alarm clock with best luck so far.

See warnings and look further in below link if you choose to try. It seems suited to short term use. My sympathy, I know how awful insomnia can be after 15+ years. I did have pretty good luck with trazodone but now am starting to think this class of drug begets more and more pharmo-accumulation and danger which it is likely u were hoping to avoid w/ melatonin. Also be careful, unless you buy pharmacy compounded supplements. OTC has no consistent dosing guarantees (or even that enough or any is present to be effective) bc it is a supplement; therefore not held to the same standards as rx drugs. http://www.fda.gov/food/dietarysupplements/default.htm
