Does anyone take a combination of low dose Sinemet and Azilect? If so, how is it working for you? My husband (46 yrs. old) was recently diagnosed with PD. He tried Sinemet (25/100) as a diagnostic tool and it worked fairly well for him. He is currently trying Mirapex and it is doing nothing to relieve symptoms and is keeping him awake at night. He is in the very early stages (symptoms confined to right arm) so we want to find a combination that improves symptoms and may also slow progression. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I have been fighting this disease for 14 years. The following may help. In layman's terms the treatment is based on 2 legs. Dopamine as the hero to fight directly against the symptoms and an antagonist to help the hero in this fight. Here the hero is called Sinemet, Prolopa, Madopar depending on the country it is produced with slight differences in composition. They more or less do the same thing. The antagonist is called Mirapex, Requip, Pergolid depending on the country, but their compositions are different. Other drugs like Rasagiline which is called Azilect or Agilect to slow down the progress and Artane against tremors are secondary in this fight. At the onset of the disease it is important to find the right combination of the two legs with the right daily even hourly doses. Once this combination is found then Azilect can come in. Forget about Azilect and try first to find the right two leg combination. In a few months you will find it. Then add Azilect. For example for me Madopar + Requip combination worked.
I hope this helps. |

I was diagnosed with PD 8 years ago, and am currently taking Sinemet, Requip and Azilect. My neurologist prescribed 1 mg o Azilect 2 years ago, and that is what I am taking. My internist recommends that I take 1/2 mg, saying that it is an adjunct and 1/2 mg is better in that case. In reading about the side effects of Azilect it listed neck pain, which I have had for the past 6 months. My neurologist suggested massage. I am wondering if others have neck pain who are taking 1 mg of Azilect in conjunction with Sinemet and Requip.
