There have been discussions here about finding new ways to protest or to promote the fight against Parkinson’s, in public; something relatively easy to do with few people and few resources, some kind of street theatre, something that will gain attention,
Try a call-response (video below on my site below shows an example, from Philip Glass, about Occupy Wall Street, but the same positive, poetic and brief method could be used for Parkinson’s.) Make up your own words and try it out at your next PWP meeting, and then maybe take it out to the world. Call: We have Parkinson’s Response: (We have Parkinson’s) We need your help (We need your help) To ease the pain (To ease the pain) To live our lives (To live our lives) To find a cure (To find a cure) For this evil disease (For this evil disease) We can do it together (We can do it together) We need you all (We need you all) we need you now (we need you now) We need you to listen to us (We need you to listen to us) You are our neighbors (You are our neighbors) We are your brothers and sisters (We are your brothers and sisters) We need your support (We need your support) We need you (We need you) we need you now (we need you now) We need your love (we need your love) We need to make a difference (We need to make a difference) We know you that you care (We know that you care) And we care about you (And we care about you) we are all equal (we are all equal) Join us in eradicating (Join us in eradicating) This evil disease (This evil disease) From the face of the earth (from the face of the earth) Forever (Forever) It will be our special gift (It will be our special gift) To all the world (To all the world) and to future generations (and to future generations) That we liberated the human race (That we liberated the human race) From this evil killer (from this evil killer) That will never be feared again (That will never be feared again) It will stand in history (It will stand in history) As a victory of the human heart (As a victory of the human heart) Philip Glass, composer, does fast, loving protests this way. In just a few minutes, his message gets through, with hope and humanity and poetry and love - not long speeches, not breaking windows, not blocking streets, not disrupting people’s lives. You can quickly make up words for the call-response; and one by one individuals can speak their own lines, and everybody repeats what they say. Appeal to people’s higher love, not their hatreds. This is a good way to protest. Text and two videos with music by Philip Glass: http://parkinsonsdance.blogspot.com/...hapter-44.html |
