Default USA Support Legislation to Accelerate Drug and Treatment Approvalsnd

Contact your Member of Congress Today to Support Legislation to Accelerate Drug and Treatment Approvals

Recently, Congressmen Cliff Stearns (R-FL) and Edolphus Towns (D-NY) introduced H.R. 4132, the Fast Access to Specialized Treatments (FAST) Act.

The Parkinson's Action Network (PAN) supports this bill, a positive step in the effort to ensure the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has at its disposal the necessary tools and resources to more quickly get safe and effective drugs to patients with serious or life-threatening diseases or conditions.

As you know, current, state-of-the-art treatment for Parkinson's is based on a 40-year-old pharmaceutical therapy, which only treats some symptoms of the disease. No therapies exist that will slow or halt its progression. In addition, central nervous system drugs, including therapies for Parkinson's disease, are the slowest in the drug development pipeline – it takes an average of 15-20 years for new therapies to get to market.

This bill is intended to streamline and hasten the FDA's existing approval process and modernize the program to ensure people with Parkinson's and other diseases have quicker access to safe and effective therapies.

Please ask your Members of Congress to co-sponsor H.R. 4132, the Fast Access to Specialized Treatments (FAST) Act. Take a moment to personalize your message to emphasize why your Member's support is important to you. Adding a few sentences about your personal involvement in the Parkinson's community makes your message stand out from the thousands of other emails your Member of Congress receives.
