Hi Neil,
I know PD research is frustrating. For example, I see studies from 2004 about ginseng being neuroprotective. At the end of the article it is stated that starting a clinical trial could happen very soon. We are now 2012 ... I don't find any clinical trials. 8 years lost !!!
I do believe in stem cells because of the research I read about it. Recently there was some very promising results about stem cell treatments from an australian team. They were capable to insert human stem cells in rhesus monkeys and improve their symptoms by 20 to 40 %. They also saw dopamine neurons were created inside the monkey's brain and they talk about clinical trials on human beings within 4 to 6 years. One of the guys even said that in the PD community they always claim to have a cure within 5 to 10 years ... but he also said that with the current results it could actually happen they would manage to really find a cure in this timespan. Let's just hope that this time their guess is correct.
I do believe stem cell therapy will provide a cure. The only question I have is when. I hope it comes on time for all of you.
