This might sound weird but I just found some reports claiming that fasting triggers the brain to create BDNF:

Further resarch showed me that the possible neuroprotective effects of exercise on PD are known a long time ago. I found articles about this from 2004 !!! We are now 8 years later. So I wonder why no clinical trials have been conducted to sort this out ??? Companies and organizations are looking for all these crazy meds for neuroprotectiveness ... while the most simple neuroprotectiveness could be fasting and exercise. I just can't believe this is not yet tested over several clinical trials. I am just shocked and dissapointed.

I saw an Amazing documentary about the strong power and benefits of fasting on french tv....
but i understood you had to stop all medics during the 3/4 fasting weeks |

Fasting is a very tantalizing subject vis-a-vis PD and has been discussed here a good deal. There is no doubt in my mind that there is a connection between our glucose handling, insulin, electrolyte shifts resulting from insulin, sinemet's documented tie to insulin resistence, and so on. Born in 1953, 1st symptoms and misdiagnosed as essential tremor in 1992. Dx with PD in 2000. Currently (2011) taking 200/50 Sinemet CR 8 times a day + 10/100 Sinemet 3 times a day. Functional 90% of waking day but fragile. Failure at exercise but still trying. Constantly experimenting. Beta blocker and ACE inhibitor at present. Currently (01/2013) taking ldopa/carbadopa 200/50 CR six times a day + 10/100 form 3 times daily. Functional 90% of day. Update 04/2013: L/C 200/50 8x; Beta Blocker; ACE Inhib; Ginger; Turmeric; Creatine; Magnesium; Potassium. Doing well. |
