(abstract from 2009. Has anyone tried inosine?) Urate and Parkinson's Disease Higher concentrations of urate in the blood and spinal fluid of patients with early Parkinson's disease may be associated with slower rates of disease progression, according to a new study. Urate is an antioxidant that occurs naturally in the blood as an end product of normal metabolism. A new trial is being launched to examine the effects of supplemental inosine (a precursor of urate) on the progression of Parkinson's disease. Until more evidence is available, experts are cautioning Parkinson's patients not to self-treat with inosine supplements. Too much urate in the body may increase the risks of kidney stones, gout and heart disease. Ascherio A, LeWitt PA, Xu K, et al.
