Default NEWSFLASH: Brainstorm

http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...80G07Q20120117

http://israel21c.org/health/israeli-...-als-patients/

Though these articles concern ALS, if effective the technique will also be used for Parkinson's disease. At the moment they succesfully did a clinical phase I trial. It seems to be a safe method. This is good. They also claimed that their ALS patients improved; they improved swallowing, breathing and muscular power.

What I like about their way of working is that they will adopt a very agressive strategy. If this works, they expect this on the market within the coming 3 years.

Update: http://www.brainstorm-cell.com/

This is their website. Basically they insert stem cells that secrete neurotrophic factors. I am really curious to see more results. This is maybe one of the most promising techniques existing at the moment.

People, I don't know about you, but I think this is the (partial) cure we were hoping for. I am really happy with this. This is tested on ALS only, but results are really really promising. The results are similar to the Amgen gdnf results on PD patients but this is much better because they can insert growth factor producing stem cells much better localized than with the Amgen catether.
