Hi all,
I have a question for you guys. I hope you can answer me. Is drowsiness a symptom of PD ? I mean ... feeling like if you are a little bit drunk ... is this a PD symptom ? And I mean this when not on meds, because I know some meds can have this as a side-effect. |

Below, you will find quoted material from this website:
http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/patient...ges/index.aspx Both primary and seconary forms of Parkinson's are listed as well as primary, secondary, motor and non motor symptoms. Drowziness is not among them. However, I have also experienced uncontrollable urges to sleep and feelings of drunkenness. I have also experienced lapses in time without a clue as to where i was or what i was doing during the lapse. These episodes almost invariably happened after not spacing my medicine doses far enough apart and introducing too much into my body too soon. [QUOTE What are the four primary symptoms of Parkinson's? The following are the most common symptoms of Parkinson's disease. However, each individual may experience symptoms differently. Symptoms may include:
Symptoms of Parkinson's disease vary from patient to patient. The symptoms may appear slowly and in no particular order. Early symptoms may be subtle and may progress over many years before reaching a point where they interfere with normal daily activities. The four cardinal symptoms of PD are listed above. Other symptoms are divided into motor (movement related) and nonmotor symptoms.
The symptoms of Parkinson's disease may resemble other conditions or medical problems. Always consult your physician for a diagnosis][/QUOTE] i hope this helped. michael |

Hi Michael,
Many thanks for your reply. Before your reply I found on some website (which I don't recall but it looked a thrustfull and professional one) that drowziness and confusion are symptoms of PD. I asked this because my father was complaining about feeling like he was drunk and I was getting scared maybe he didn't have PD but something worse. I already suffered enough when a neurologist diagnosed him with PD ... if he would have something worse I wouldn't know how to deal with it. |

There are a number of symptom of PD which are often neglected because they are not seen as central to the disease. Examples are: depression, pain and fatigue.
I have included a link below from the MJ Fox Foundation to a study that they are currently funding on the topic of fatigue: https://www.michaeljfox.org/foundati...p?grant_id=690 It is unclear what leads to the fatigue, but it can be quite pronounced. There is also a recent study indicating that sleep is very beneficial to reducing PD symptoms: ww.************/parkinsons.disease/news/120623.pdf For some people the fatigue can be overwhelming. i think drowsiness is a sypmtom of both disease and meds, and probably pd alone. we are loosing brain cells, have mitochondia involvment. Cancer has incredible fatigue - i was told the radiation killed cells and the body was replacing them, thus the fatigue
seems like our cell loss would do the same. back to pd - requip and mirapex cause sleep attacks and in canada you can't have a drivers license iif you take requip- still so?
