Default Enzymes??

Anyone have experience with enzyme therapy? In particular I am referring to a product by "NOW" which they call "Plant Enzymes." About a dozen diferent ones blended. Many familiar names such as bromelain, papain, lactase, amylase, etc.

I started taking it yesterday morning because my wife made me as a common sense move given my diet. It had nothing to do with PD in my mind. But by yesterday afternoon I began to notice that I seemed to be doing better and by the time I went to bed at midnight there was no denying it.

So today I have been paying attention and there is no question. My functional ability is up by 25% and my sinemet intake is down by a third! Anyone have a clue out there?

Currently (2011) taking 200/50 Sinemet CR 8 times a day + 10/100 Sinemet 3 times a day. Functional 90% of waking day but fragile. Failure at exercise but still trying. Constantly experimenting. Beta blocker and ACE inhibitor at present. Currently (01/2013) taking ldopa/carbadopa 200/50 CR six times a day + 10/100 form 3 times daily. Functional 90% of day. Update 04/2013: L/C 200/50 8x; Beta Blocker; ACE Inhib; Ginger; Turmeric; Creatine; Magnesium; Potassium. Doing well.

something similar to grapefruit inhibiting enzymes that might break down l-dopa

Naturally occurring compounds may also induce or inhibit CYP activity. For example, bioactive compounds found in grapefruit juice and some other fruit juices, including bergamottin, dihydroxybergamottin, and paradicin-A, have been found to inhibit CYP3A4-mediated metabolism of certain medications, leading to increased bioavailability and, thus, the strong possibility of overdosing.[15] Because of this risk, avoiding grapefruit juice and fresh grapefruits entirely while on drugs is usually advised.[16]

Well, that is as far as I got when i realized that the information on enzymes could and does fill volumes. It's a start.
