I have been taking azilect for the past few month and although it has increased the sinemet on time I'm pretty sure it has left me feeling depressed. Yesterday I read that Wellbutrin boosts dopamine and is an antidepressant. Am thinking of ditching the azilect in favour of wellbutrin. What are other people's experiences of this drug?

I seem to feel similar boosting effects from Zoloft 200 mg a day. I don't know about azilect.

My neurologist did not want me to take Azilect with Wellbutrin due to the drug interactions. I took Wellbutrin alone in the past, it made the constipation really worse! I am now taking 25 mg Zoloft and it works - better than nothing. Can SSRI eventually deplete dopamine? Although "SAD-PD" study does not say so, I feel some of them still could, especially in high dose and long period. However, everyone is so different...

Wellbutrin changed my life..I was depressed for about 18 months, and the more depressed I got, the worse my symptoms got in a very short time
I had countless freezing episodes..I couldnt get through a door wat, a narrow spacce, crowds, furniture, you name the obstcle, and I probably froze because of it..I shuffled around trying to figurie out how I was going to get from point A to point B I started having severe off periods, dyskinesia, pouring sweats, entire body weakess, and felt terribly uncomfortsble in any position.. I litterly wanted to jump out of my skin..One morning I woke up, having trouble getting out off bed, and taking those first few steps and thinking to myself, "I have to go through another day of this ****?..It would be easier not to be here any more"..I found out what it feels like to not fear death..my friends and family would ask me how I was feelng, and I would say "fine" Then a guy frm New Orleans moved into town, amd we became friends..He saw what people close to me couldnt see..The people close to me figured thats what Parkinsons does to ya But this guy told me, "Dude, you are severely depressed, and you need to go and get help"..So I called my neuro, and he put me on 200 mgs of Wellbutrin per day, and the depression was gone the first day.. Then I enrolled in a five day out patient program on depression at a local psych hospital, and they added 300 mgs of Neurontin, and 10 mgs of Valium..My pd symptms have been cut in about half since then..Minimal shuffling, no more freezing episodes, and no more hard off periods..About 20 minutes of dyskinesia, and its over..I am able to drive at night again..I was a commercial fisherman most of my life, and I went out 3 days this week, and this is what I did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuK8aNzuRmQ Symptomatic since 2002...dx 2004 I take 600 mgs of Stalevo, and 300 mgs Amantadne We are all different, but Wellbitrin gave me some of my life back..I have been taking it since last Oct

Sorry I have been away so long. I miss everyone
Wellbutrin is an old anti-depressant medication in relationship to the newer SSRI's. I had trouble with Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft, and others, but when I tried Wellbutrin - BINGO! Your movement symptoms can be directly proportional to your mood. Depression can totally disable someone with Parkinson's. Iii guess my intolerance to the SSRI's had a lot to do with the MAO-Inhibitor Ii have taken for years - Eldepryl or Selegeline. If I miss my daily 5 mg pill, my mood hits rock bottom by the end of the day. Originally, Eldepryl was made for severe depression. It's now used as an adjunct therapy to dopamine replacement. Whatever it does, we make a great duet! Peg |

HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED FOWARD TO SOMETHING AND DREADED IT AT THE SAME TIME?

Hi, Steve and Peg.
I've been the happy beneficiary of 150mg daily Wellbutrin for about 7 years, along with 30 mg Cymbalta. Listen to us folks; depression is a killer! Someone who tells you to "gut it out" or "lift yourself by your bootstraps" when you are struggling with serious depression is NOT your friend. Depression was my first (unrecognized) PD symptom. When you said that about someone is "not your friend, who doesn't understand the relation of exacerbated symptoms to depression, I yelled "Amen!" out loud. My hubby eveN asked me what I was screaming about. Lol
