Sorry new members can not PM for a short time.
That is why you can't find that option yet.

Perhaps post about symptoms and any treatments she has tried already..

Gerry, I think I am too new of a member to be able to PM. So maybe I will just post. My wife has got to a point that she is having a lot of dsykinesia. She is trying to get through it but it is tuff. Did you have to go through a phase like this before you got to your sweet spot? We hope we are close. I don't know how much more she can take. Any advise? Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg

I am sorry that your wife is suffering and I hope she gets through this quickly. I have never had dyskinesias. My correct dose and ratio of aminos took some time but went smoothly. Apparently, dyskinesias are caused by lack of serotonin or an imbalance with dopamine in the basal ganglia, at least according to one old study. She might need her 5-HTP dose adjusted. Again. I am not a doctor. I know nothing about her condition. This is not medical advice but a reminder that her practitioner should be consulting with Dr. Hinz to solve this problem.

Gerry

Gerry, Thanks for the reply. She will be on a pill stop today so she should have a better day. We appreciate your feedback on your journey. This dyskinesia has been the most difficult thing so far. She is starting to feel like a marathon runner with not knowing where the finish line is at. I hope to post good news soon. Thanks again, Greg

Default Mucuna source

I am on the Hinz Protocol and doing very well. Started last summer 2014 and I'm still tweaking my dose a little. It took about 5 or 6 months to get me to what I describe as a night and day difference from where I started. My current dose is as follows: 37 grams of Mucuna (about 15 tsp) divided into 6 doses every 3 hrs. 32 grams of Tyrosine (4 tbl) mixed in with my mucuna, so it's divided into 6 doses as well. 3 capsules 5-HTP and 6 capsules L-Cysteine per day. Plus some B6 and Folic Acid. As you can see I'm on the higher side of the dosing averages. There in lies the problem. The Mucuna cost is killing me. I found a good quality tyrosine source that's much cheaper. I use about 4 tubs of Mucuna (270G) a month that cost me almost $200 a tub after you figure in shipping. That's about $800 a month just for Mucuna. I know you are a retired pharmacist and you've been able to purchase yours directly for a much better price. There was a recent price increase, I'm not sure if you experienced that. What are you paying for your Mucuna these days? Do you have any ideas at all on how I can cut my costs? I also don't feel really comfortable having only one source for Mucuna. What if they went out of business or something crazy. This works so well and I feel so much better I could never go back to the old meds. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Michael
Hello Michael,
I know your message is from a while ago - but I am new here and wanted to chime in. My sister has been doing Amino Acid Therapy (Hinz protocol) since May. Overall, it has been nothing short of miraculous for her! In answer to the mucuna question: We have been getting mucuna (40% l-dopa) from Barlowes Herbal Elixirs. The cost is $186 for one kilogram - so markedly less. I hope this help.
Blessings,
Sue
