Aunt Bean,
I'm intrigued. What is it in pumpkin seeds that can reduce Parkinson's tremors? Thank you Norton |

Pumpkin seeds are an excellant source of tryptophan and glutamate. Tryptophans convert into seratonin and niacin. Seratonin is a beneficial nerochemical (nature's
sleeping pill) Tryptophan is a precursor of B Complex vites. Glutamate is required in the synthesis of y-amino butyric acid(GABA) an anti-stress neurochemical in the brain. They are a good source of Vit E antioxidant, protecting cells from free-radicals Also, source of B Complex Vites that work as cofactors for various enzymes during cellular metabolism. They enhance GABA activity INSIDE the brain Raw Pumpkin seeds also contain essential minerals...copper, manganeese, potasium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium. They help cut the risk of prostate and ovarian cancers, and have a role in preventing diabetic kidney disease They seem to have the effect of reducing tremor in several PD'rs I know... scientifically....don't know if there have been clinical trials using them They are an important ingredient in the Fava Bean Sprout Balls we make and devour around here for our PD symptoms....try a couple handfuls a day as a snack or ground into meal and put in cereal or peanut butter.....report what you notice with them.. |

I am 70 and have tremors primarily on my left side and the best thing I ever did was get a rocking chair, just an ordinary wooden rocking chair. I sit and cross my legs, right thigh over left thigh in my case, place my tremoring hand between my two thighs - this has the effect of dampening the tremors - and then I rock. The rocking motion sort of "drowns out" the tremors and as long as I keep rocking I am virtually tremor free. Through experimentation, you will find other configurations of legs and hands that allow you to shift positions and still get the same effect. I can't tell you what a comfort it is to know there is a place I can go where my symptoms will virtually disappear, even if only temporarily.

I have been told (don't understand it though) that crossing say your right hand to left foot makes some change in your energy channels. When I am walking and tired or my l-dopa is low and I need to take some...my left arm may stop swinging and even come up and look like a puppy begging in front of me. If I take hold of my left hand by the wrist with my other hand and stretch it as far as it can go out past my right shoulder, it will go down by my side and begin to swing normally again..at least for a while (til I take my fava tops tincture and get jumpstarted again

My brother was staying with me and when his tremor got bad for some reason decided to stand, bend forward and grasping the bar stool with a hand each side of the seat turned it round from side to side so both hands were below him and making a circular motion. His tremor reduced almost immediately and stayed reduced for a good while afterwards, a matter of a couple of hours. He did it again when he came last and the same thing happened. He commented the particular movement seemed to interrupt the tremor.
