Default Mirapex

Does anyone have any experience with Mirapex's side effect of compulsive gambling?

Thanks. I am guessing the mirapex patch has the same side effects. My family member who has Parkinson's recently got off Mirapex after losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in credit card debt. He got horrible RLS though, so his neurologists put him on the Mirapex patch. He is insane about gambling again. I am going to find out if he is still on the patch today. I just don't know if it is the drug, or he has developed a real addiction regardless of Mirapex.

i don't think there is a mirapex patch, there is a neupro patch which has a different agonist, i could be wrong.

I think there are other alternative medications for RLS, he might need to ask about those.

Possibly dietary changes and /or certain supplements would be of help.

You might check our Vitamins, Nutrients, Herbs and Supplements forum.

I learned that he is on a 1/2 dose of Mirapex, not a patch. He took himself off Mirapex so fast before that he was like a zombie. Now he is acting manic and not within reality. I will look into the alternatives for treatment of restless legs to give to him. Thanks. At this point though, I'm not sure he wants to get off Mirapex, since he was so depressed and lifeless when he was off of it.

not sure what a 1/2 dose of mirapex is, it comes in many different strengths including an extended release. not trying to be difficult but it sounds like you need more info.
if he was a zombie on it why would he want to take it? i stopped taking it for that reason.

Sorry for not being more clear. He is on 1/2 of the dosage that he was on before. He is not a zombie on the medication. He was like that after he got off of Mirapex before. I was just looking for help in case anyone else had similar experiences and got through it.

Regardless if someone takes Mirapax immediate-release or Mirapex ER, the maximum dosage is 4.5 mg/day, which was what my family member was taking. So half of that would be 2.25 mg/day.
