For me it is not a matter of liking them anymore. Their agenda is all about the medications. How much, what time and the side effects. I have had some serious problems that are not pd related (obviously they felt that they were) which were never addressed.
I am paranoid now. In the 20-30 minute appointment that I sometimes wait months for I can pretty well guarantee I am going to walk out without the help I was looking for. The questions I have left unanswered or not taken seriously. I don't understand it. The neurologist I see now lets me do my own thing as far as medications go. I appreciate that I don't have an ego struggle with him because I am not doing what I'm told. I have had that and it was unbelievable. At the same time I feel like he treats me with amusement. Not unpleasant but not very helpful either. Bonnie

Since I last posted on this thread, I have a great MDS (who I pay out of pocket for) that has been amazing and has helped me tremendously. She listens to my concerns, answers my questions, and seems truly concerned with my well being.
I then take that information to the neuro that I see that's covered by my health plan, and she takes the MDS's info and works with it. She's not what I would call a "great" doctor by any means, but she cooperates and then moves on to her next patient. The bottom line for me is, fight for your health care. You deserve the best care available, so it's worth the battle in the end. Even though it took almost a year for me to work things out, it was worth every second.

It's definitely good advice to seek out an MDS neurologist. I'm seeing Dr. Greeley in Spokane. The meds he's prescribed have me feeling pretty well. He answers email messages and phone calls. I had several bad years till I found the right doctor. Now things are much better.

I am also seeing Dr. Greeley in Spokane. I love that he is matter of fact about things, but in a very nice way. I think that he really cares about his patients. I don't feel like just a number on a chart. If I call or e-mail him with questions or concerns, he is always quick to get back to me. I love having a doctor that is so approachable. I don't think that is all that common these days!
I also have to add that I have been very happy with the NP and other staff in the office. I am just in the beginning of this journey and it hasn't been easy. They have all been wonderful ! |
