I was very excited when Dr. Levesque announced his original success. So, since I live in the area, I made an appointment and went to see him. Here are my personal impressions and should be viewed on a "for what it's worth" basis. I saw him at a very small office (one doctor, one receptionist) in west Los Angeles. First of all, he did not appear to be a movement disorder specialist. His specialty seemed to be back surgery. I also found a followup to his success story which indicated that surgery was performed on only one guy and although the result was encouraging at first, the positive result lasted a couple of years and the symptoms then came back. . Dr. Levesque told me that he was in the process of putting together a facility to process the stem cells. That was at least 5 years ago... sorry my memory is not so good for dates so I can't be more specific. I did ask him what size check I would need to write to have him do the procedure on me and that figure was quoted at around $150,000... a bit of trivia for the day.

thanks.
suffice it to say it was a major disappointment after receiving huge national attention. some canadian company bought the intellectual rights to the procedure, brain stem cells were extracted and then replicated and reinjected into the brain, whole procedure took months. not sure if the canadian company even tried to develop the process. the major attraction was they didn't have to use embryonic stem cells. |
