Establishing some guidelines
Here is my rant for today. I am still at the point where I can manage my meds, I know what works and what doesn't. How many of us go to the doc, a plain 'ol neurologist. The complaint is his walking has gotten worse. They prescribe increasing the sinemet 1 pill a day. See you at the checkout desk.
I don't think this is far fetched. Why isnt there any instruction to the patient or the family about timing of the medication, whether or not the dose is enough, dyskinesia, etc. I have had PD for 16 yrs now and they didn't do it then, I don't think it's going on now. Just wondering ya know? We as patients want our meds to work as good as possible but have to find out all of this stuff after we've been 2-3 years or longer with the disease? Is this something the NPF can do? What about an educational video on just sinemet? You could talk for an hour or more on that med alone about getting effectiveness from it, the importance of diet, dealing with constipation and regimens of a laxative so ya don't get all backed up. You could talk about finding your "on" doseage with a daily diary. I just wonder what I would do if I didn't have some sort of medical background to fall back on. Not to mention the great importance of a family member support system from going to the office visit to all they do for you at home. I am so grateful to my mom! Nuff said!
