Default Celebrating the beautiful life of Swami Radhakrishnananda

Namaste,

Swami Radhakrishnananda died on August 31st, 2012 at the age of 63 from ovarian cancer. She was a disciple of Swami Radha, and lived a life based on selfless service, gratitude, humility, surrender and generosity in a manner that inspired everyone who met her.

She had a special interest in the connections between health, healing and yoga, and wrote a column “Yoga and Health” for Ascent Magazine for two years. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2001, she was especially happy to be able to teach yoga to others with Parkinson’s. This was true to her spirit of loving service, and her willingness to learn from the challenges life presented.

Swami Radhakrishnananda was also a keen student of dance, starting when she was a child with ballet and tap and later discovering sacred dance based on East Indian dance traditions. Swami Radha encouraged her talent and devotion, and Swami Radhakrishnananda shared her love of dance with many students leading them to find wholeness through movement and prayer. She has been instrumental in contributing to the lasting legacy of Sacred Dance at Yasodhara Ashram and Radha Yoga Center Spokane.

Her life was one of grace and commitment, devotion to her guru, and a deep love of Yasodhara Ashram, her spiritual home.
“I am learning that illness is a path in itself, opening the door to the inner guru. A deep reverence for life emerges *– for my life and all the life around me.”
