Sounds like you have a good mix. The curcumin is particularly good for the long haul. The DM has both short and long term benefits as does the ALA/ALC. You might trade the cod liver oil for a general fish oil to get a better mix of the various fats, but the cod liver oil does give you a good dose of Vitamin D, which seems to be very important. All in all, I'd say you are doing great. Much more and "pill fatigue" will rear its weary head.

Curcumin
AshleyK,
I take two 900mg tablets per day of Super Curcumin containing bioperine. from iHerb.com. Always buy curcumin containing bioperine ( a form of piperine derived from black pepper). This has been shown to massively improve the bioavailability of curcumin. See the PubMed article, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/q...t_uids=9619120 where it shows a 2000% improvement!! Incidentally, piperine also improves C10, in a similar way.See http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/n...pip_0322.shtml EnglishCountryDancer, I would not worry about not being sure which supplement is giving the improvement. I should stick to the mix you have found gives benefits to your husband. Alpha lipoic acid and acetyl L Carnitine are usefull supplements also. I agree with Everette123 that vitamin D is important. However, regular sunbathing will top up your supply. Hope this helps Ron |
Thanks
I have already ordered a stronger concentration of fish oil.Incidently, the ALA/ALC is the only thing I have found to improve MY memory.I have taken it on and off for years.Really grateful to everyone on this forum as you inspire us not to lie down and give up but to get up and fight

Question
Hi,
This is all interesting. I want to look into it more. My question is can you take it with other supplements. I am currently taking CoQ10 and Alpha Lipoic/ I recently had to stop my Amantadine and switched from selegiline to Azielct (rasagiline). Needless to say, I am a mess at the moment. I am very undermedicated at the moment. MDS says it'll take a few weeks to get back to where I was...if not longer. We're going to add another drug at that point....just not sure what yet. Maybe Stalevao...anyway, I digress...:Talkative: Bottom line, is it ok to add to my current herbal/vitamin regiment or should I drop some? What do you think? Thanks! Janice |
My own experience
I have used curcumin with a large number of different supplements and several meds and never had a problem. Now, that's curcumin not the whole turmeric. The latter is a much more complex set of chemicals while the former is the purified single component.

Curcumin
Yes, I have also taken curcumin for years whilst taking a variety of meds and never had a problem. You have to remember most of the population of India take more curcumin in their diet than we do, without problem. I know of no contraindictions.

A question about dosage
Ron, Thanks so much for the dosage info. One point I would like to ask you about: you said you take two 900mg tablets per day of Super Curcumin containing bioperine available at iHerb.com The only product I can find on the iHerb website with "super curcumin" in the title is Life Extension Super Curcumin with Bioperine. But that only comes in 800mg caps. Could you possibly have intended to say you take two 800mg caps per day rather than two 900mg caps? I know I'm probably being Obessive-Compulsive about this but I want get it right and do exactly what you do.
Thanks Togo |
Curcumin dose
Hi Togo,
This thread is 2 years old, and at that time iHerb sold 900mg tablets, containing bioperine. Being in the UK, and having to pay for freight and customs, I order a large amount each time. The one I buy is labelled Doctor's Best, Best Curcumin C3 Complex, with BioPerine, 1000 mg, 120 See http://www.iherb.com/Doctor-s-Best-B...ets/12137?at=0 Now I take one 1,000mg tablet per day. I have tried higher levels, but did not notice any difference. I think around the 1,000mg level is near the optimum. However, I don't think it matters much where you source it from, provided it contains bioperine (Piperine). I would not want to be accused of pushing a particular supplier. I would not say iHerb is any better than any other supplier. Hope this helps Ron |
Thanks Ron
That's just the kind of specific information I needed. I guess I wasn't expecting it to be so simple. I thought it would cost a lot more and I'd have to take it multiple times per day, so your regimen is pleasant surprise. Togo |
