What a great advocate you are for your husband. so many years of misdiagnosis all the while no one would listen. I hope you are able to continue to have faith in a less than perfect system. Certainly his physicians had his best interests in mind while rendering care. given this condition so closely mimics Parkinson's, and drug therapy is so unpredictable in Parkinson's, it is difficult to determine that the condition is not "true parkinson's". The testing is not done unless the doctor has a suspicion it might be NPH. And I know caregivers are often perceived as overprotective worriers. My best to you and your husband. Again, good for you and your perseverance.

The diagnosis of PD can be challenging when based solely on clinical history and examination. A review of the literature has revealed misdiagnoses in 47% of cases diagnosed by general physicians in the community, in 25% of cases diagnosed by a general neurologist, and in 6%-8% of cases diagnosed by a neurologist specializing in movement disorders.[1] The most current data is from 2006. No wonder our trials typically cannot meet endpoints. |

I am sorry for not getting back on line sooner, the Neuro Surgeon has my husband scheduled for the 11th of April for the shunt surgery. Beings that it has taken this long I just pray that things will be much better for him after the surgery. I believe his being on those darn meds for so long has really done his body harm, am praying it isnt too late. I sure want to thank you that will pray for him, and also please pray for God to guide the Surgeon and those caring for him during his hospital stay,my husbands name is Jack.
Sincere thanks,Patti |
