I'm not a rat but I can tell you that the benefits of exercise last. During the first year of my diagnosis I wasn't able to read and remember what I had read or even remember the author or the title of what I read. I had a difficult time thinking in sentences or speaking sentences and heaven help me if I had to speak in paragraphs. Once I started cycling fast cadence, my cognitive abilities returned. I find it when I'm unable to cycle for three or four weeks in a row that my abilities dissipate but don't go away completely. Once I begin cycling again they return very quickly. Then again, I'm not a rat.
