Default White Rat Registry

As many of you already know, I have been more or less the "Big Rat" around here, mainly because nobody else seemed to want the title. I would occasionally test something and post about it but that was about it.

But now there is a new wind blowing down the Rat Hole as brave rodents are popping up all around. So, rather than allow this new energy dissipate I propose to create a thread "White Rat Registry as a central place to gather the things that we test either as individuals or as groups. This is the place to report both the successes and the failures. Sometimes the latter can be more important than the former.

I guess the way that I propose to organize this is to ask that you post your results, questions, etc with what you are working on as the first word(s) in the individual message title. That will give us a minimal organization and can can be refined as we wish. All in favor wiggle your whiskers!! In the meantime I will tidy up the burrow a little to see if it works.

I began this one just yesterday and am pleased with the initial results. I will elaborate later.

Default Panax Ginseng

While I have tryed it a few years ago, I have been working my way back to it and also started it yesterday. Bad science I know, and I will trim things a little later.

Default Glutathione

Songfellow had a positive report on this one but it got kind of buried. Maybe he could brush it off and add it here?

Default Bannisteriopsis Caapi

*Note - this substance becomes illegal in the US only when combined with other plants that are traditionally used in ayahuasca preparations. Harmaline is the beneficial constituent for PD.

Generally I feel very cautious about MAOIs - they seem to boost the ego in my experience - however caapi seem s different in that regard. I am making a very very weak tea - evolving through pd is my intent.

Default Measurement

Rick,

Good idea. If only two people send in a report that still gives more information than the report of just one person.

I think it is important to report objective measures, and suggest a simple on-line program that I've written:

http://www.parkinsonsmeasurement.org...eToSideTap.htm

It is also important to have a protocol describing what you're doing and when your measurements are taken.

John

Default Another rat checking in for duty

I have tried a number of off label meds as well as supplements thought to help some PWPs.

You should also know that my regimen has been "blessed" by my MDS.

Below are my results.

1) Changed high blood pressure med to isradipine. Result improved rigidity and swallowing.
2) Changed high cholesterol med to simvastatin. Result mild improvement in muscle strength and rigidity. Tremors slightly worse.
3) Citicoline, Co Q10, nicotine gum, caffiene, Vitamin K2. Result lots of energy, tremors worse.
4) Resveratrol, Green tea extract, Curcumin (longvida and meriva), fish oil, Vitamin D, Coconut oil, Sarsparillia extract. Result no change.

At last MDS checkup, UPDRS (motor) was down 6 points -- Might have been just having a good day.

Hats off to everyone who contributes to this website. Thank you.

Rick...I think my whiskers are always wiggliing.....not looking for cheese, but excited about any little tidbit that will improve the quality of our lives.
RHODIOLA:I am still pleased with Rhodiola....just don't know yet how long you can continue taking the herb...a friend started on it ( she also only using fava and mucuna for symptoms) and she is also experiencing good results (more energy, etc)
FAVA: Have made a new tincture that I am pleased with from fava sprouts unsteamed, but still have no one here to test it for l-dopa content. I NEED A CHEMIST !
Aunt Bean can be the "Gray Rat"
(I will grow long whiskers so I can navigate small un-charted tunnels !)

Default MISC; This could also serve as a triage unit of sorts

Lab rat has shared an accumulation of results and has categorized them a well. Now, when one of us is in a ratty mood we can look for "data holes" that need to be filled. This could, for example, be a reported "zero" effect that conflicted with someone else's "moderate" effect and therefore needed more data. We obviously are going to be limited in how deep we can go with this, but just sorting out into major categories can do a lot. And, as johnT pointed out, some simple record keeping, particularly in the second tier, could really get interesting.

Aunt Bean: you could handle multiple substances by using a sort of multiple "tag" system. For example, your title could begin with "FAVA BEANS; RHODEOLA. Choked on a fava yesterday..." That would allow "at a glance" reading. Let's just play with it and see what works. I really haven't thought much farther ahead than that.
