Default Mercury

While written by a pediatrician discussing autism, there is a great deal of cross over information here.

http://www.bolenreport.net/feature_a...article058.htm

Some of particular interest to me:

"As I studied his tortured face, it was as if there was an old time telephone switchboard operator inside his head trying to plug in the correct phone cables but not being able to complete the call. " Not a bad description of a severe "off".

"I had noticed there was a strange upswing in children with attention disorders and impulsivity problems. I wasn’t a neurologist, but had studied with one of the finest at UCLA. While I was still a pediatric resident I spent time in his office where he helped me study the parade of unusual maladies that was starting to afflict children. I considered myself a closet neurologist, because that was what I had really wanted to specialize in – not pediatrics, but during my neurology rotation in medical school I learned some discouraging news. The attending neurologist, whom I greatly admired, had taken me on rounds for the first time and I watched him brilliantly explain to the family of a stroke patient how he had figured out where in the brain the blood clot had lodged. Then he stood up and walked out of the room and I asked him what therapy he was going to prescribe for the patient so he could recover from his stroke, “therapy?” he said, “there is no therapy.” "

" Even though autism affects one in 90 boys (four boys affected for every girl) in the U.S., the CDC can’t seem to tell us exactly why. The CDC states, “We still don’t know a lot about the causes of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). Scientists think that both genes and the environment play a role, and there might be many causes that lead to ASDs.”

The site also doesn’t mention that only one in 10,000 children in the 1970s, and one in 2,500 in the 1980s were autistic. "

Is it just me, or does PD seem more frequent and earlier onset today?

"As I said before, mercury is the deadliest non-radioactive element on Earth, and 1000s of tons are spewed into the environment every year. With each coal-fire power plant that comes on line we are one step closer to exterminating human life on this planet. However, mercury is politically protected because of its connection with the fossil-fuel industry, dentistry (amalgam dental filings), and vaccine.

Thimerosal is still in the flu vaccine for children above the age of 3 and they are receiving as much as half of the dose of mercury that the child in the ‘90’s received. Thimerosal was not removed from vaccine in 1999. That was when the promise was made, but promises weren’t kept. Thimerosal is also in the meningitis vaccine. "

Flu shot anyone?

"Our regulatory agencies, such as the FDA and the EPA, have been taken over by the very industries they were mandated to regulate and the revolving door between industry and top-level appointees at these regulatory agencies has eliminated many of the normal safeguards we have relied on for our protection. "

There's much more, but that's about all I can stomach today.

Unhappy

There is growing evidence that mercury toxicity from thimerisol, as well as other metals and preservatives in vaccines could well be responsible for the explosion of not just autism, but also of other neurological disorders in kids. There is a lot of discussion on this at the Tourette Syndrome forum at Latitudes/ACN

As the statistics mount and we continue to hear a "no evidence to support...." generic reply from FDA, mainstream medical community and of course Big Pharma
it is hard not to get very very angry that those who should be protecting the health of our children are likely the very ones damaging it!

It does not surprise me at all, reveret, that a possible connection can also be drawn to earlier onset and frequency of some cases of PD and likely much other adult illness.

Default Mercury toxicity

MERCURY TOXICITY

Mercury toxicity from a wide variety of sources is a known cause of symptoms that include those of Parkinson's Disease, especially tremor. It does this by lowering dopamine levels.

Sources of mercury : dietary fish intake, ethnic over-the-counter medications, occupational exposures to mercury vapour, possession of dental amalgam fillings, gold production, skin ointment, some soaps.

Means of toxicity : One of the chief targets of the toxin is the enzyme pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH). The enzyme is irreversibly inhibited by several mercury compounds, the lipoic acid component of the multienzyme complex binds mercury compounds tightly and thus inhibits PDH. However, the cause of the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease is likely to be due to the fact that mercury potently causes the release of dopamine, thereby lowering dopamine levels.

Symptoms : Tremor [2]; Hand tremor, balance and gait disturbance with bradykinesia, paresthesias of the upper extremities, neurobehavioral abnormalities, slight memory loss, and spatial disorientation. Psychoneurological examination revealed dementia, Parkinson's syndrome and ataxia of the lower limbs [3]; Tremor [5]; Tremor, paralysis, and excessive salivation as well as tooth loss, skin problems, and pulmonary complaints [6]; fine hand tremor, depression, hypochondria symptoms, introvert behaviour, concentration difficulty, psychomotor, perceptual and motor co-ordination disturbances [7]; Tremor, loss of memory, sleeplessness, metallic taste [8]; emotional changes (symptoms of depression and anxiety) and neurological changes (amnesia, insomnia and tremor of the tongue) [9]; impaired short term verbal and spatial memory, impaired sustained and divided attention, and impaired motor speed. They also suffered from elevated clinical levels of psychiatric symptomatology, including anxiety, depression and phobic avoidance, and neurological symptoms of tremor, weakness in the limbs, and excessive sweating [10]; intention tremor, dysdiadochokinesis and mild rigidity [11]; tremor, reduced coordination ability [12].

Default mercury and flu vaccines

again--if one wants to receive the flu vaccine--ask your physician (can be your family doc--whoever delivers your flu vaccine) to order SINGLE DOSE VIAL of the vaccine. though thimerasol can be used in the processing of the vaccine itself, supposedly resulting in miniscule amts of mercury (though not in all processes)it is used in multiple dose vials as a preservative. If you receive a flu shot from multiple dose vials, you receive thimerasol

Default Banging my drum

Again, a role for endotoxins under the Frobert theory - LPS amplifies the already deadly effects of mercury. Ditto for aluminum and manganese too:

1: Toxicology. 2000 Oct 26;151(1-3):103-16.

Augmentation of mercury-induced nephrotoxicity by endotoxin in the mouse.

Lansing, MI, USA. rumbeiha@msu.edu

Endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide; LPS) and mercury are compounds of food safety
concern. Endotoxin is a product of cell walls of gram negative bacteria. Humans
are constantly exposed to LPS through infection plus translocation into
circulation from the gastrointestinal tract. Food is the major source of mercury
in humans. The toxic interaction between LPS and mercury has not been well
investigated. In a previous study, we demonstrated that LPS potentiated
mercury-induced nephrotoxicity in the rat. Whether this observation was species
specific was not clear. In this study we tested the hypothesis that LPS enhances
mercuric chloride (HgCl(2))-induced nephrotoxicity in mice. In a 2x2 factorial
design, mice received either Escherichia coli 0128:B12 endotoxin (2.0 mg/kg body
weight) or 200 microliter of 0.9% sodium chloride (saline), and this was
followed 4 h later by either mercury (1.75 mg mercuric chloride per kg body
weight) or 200 microliter of saline. Mice were monitored for 48 h. Monitored
end-points included body and renal weights, urine volume, renal histology and
ultrastructural pathology, serum urea nitrogen and creatinine, selected serum
and urine cytokines, and renal mercury concentrations. Endotoxin by itself was
not nephrotoxic at the dose used in this study. Overall, mice given LPS plus
mercury were the most severely affected. Mice given LPS and mercury also had
significantly greater renal mercury concentration than those given mercury alone
(P</=0.05). In conclusion, LPS potentiates mercury-induced nephrotoxicity in the
mouse.
