Thank you for sharing the good news. I also read ANA's report a few months ago about the Nicotine Patch, and I talked to my neurologist but he just smiled...How to get the patch - is it an OTC or by prescription?

for those interested by the Nicotine protocol,i repost my protocol ,you MUST START AT A LOW DOSE,IT'S THE WAY TO DO IT
i would add that when you reach the 14mg,you can take off the patch before bedtime, for those reading french ,please google gp29 and nicotine, you will find over 120 testimonies of patients following Dr Gabriel Villafane Nicotine therapy (some messages in spanish too ) and all those patients are positive when i read that you Neuro smiled at you,it made me sad and angry...very often,Neuros finished their medical schools 10/15/20 years ago,and i am not sure if they keep themselves so updated with the New discoveries and research... We are the ill ones, and if i was still waiting for my exNeuro to help me,i will have never entered the Nicotine therapy, which made a major positive change in my life .... i repost my updated protocol...each protocol is individual, depending on the age, weight, and and height of the PD patient... so the best way would be to get an appointment with a Neuro who does Nicotine therapy,i know these are very rare for the moment unfortunately you have to begin GRADUALLY gradually is essential,i insist on this,if you start or switch at a too much high dose,it will not work properly i am taking 24h patch,my brand is Nicopatch, but any brand should work to enter the protocol, you must be on levadopa drugs . I am on sinemet 100/10 .I take 1 pill 3 times/day presently. you must NOT TAKE THIAMIN (vitamin B1 ) supplement ,as it would interfere with the nicotine.eating red meat is also a big No-no . the patches have to taken everyday & for the rest of your life. (so this is not a cure but a treatment). It seems it might be a Cure now . it takes about 9 months ti get some visible improvments, for some people less than 9 months Here is the protocol they gave. to respect the timing and graduality is crucial you must patch yourself on a different part every 24 h those parts are :under your belly button ,on the right, then the following day left, then the following day in the end of your back on the right, then the following day on left you must change your nicotine patch every 24 h Nicopatch was the brand recommended, but just because of the dosage, any brand is ok nicotine gum won't do as you need to get the nicotine continuously to get results first 3 months : 3,5 mg nicotine patch per day (so you cut a 7 mg patch in half ) month 3 to 5: 7mg "" "" " month 5 to 7 :10 mg " " " then 14 mg for 6 months then 17 mg for next 3 months then 24 mg for the next 6 months then 31 mg since one year for me Some patients do go up to 84 mg...which is not my case you have to put the patch on those 4 areas and switch from area every day, recommended patching area (for a quicker absorption, they told me ): under the belly button,on the right and on the left at the end of your back( at the end of your spine ),just above the butt,on the right and on the left do not take any thiamine (vitamin B1 ) supplement as B1 will counter effect the nicotine better to patch in the morning ,after your bath or shower yes,you will have some sleep problems, especially when you switch for a higher dose right now i do sometimes, but not every time take off the nicotine patch before to go to bed and i take melatonine supplement (currently 4 mg/day ) |

ok,concerning my protocol,Dr villafane told me to stay 6 months on the 14 mg...but on the gp29 forum,i saw the protocol of an other patient, and he had to raise his nicotine by 3,5 mg every two months...
sorry, i don't want to confuse you but i guess both possibilities should work ... concerning taking off the patch at bedtime...it's more up to you to decide...Dr Villafane always prefer you to keep the patch 24h if possible (even at a much higher dose )... in my case,i was getting too many sleep problems at that 14mg dose, that i prefer to get a nice sleep, which is so very important for the body... if you don't have sleeping issues ,keep it at night... My progress was not spectacular but constant in the long run...and when i see the differences where i was 28 months,i see a big big positive difference now... I am much more energetic, the heavy fatigue i used to have is gone , my constant sweating is gone ,some small speech problems are gone ,my tremors are less and less, the sine met works better, but the best stuff are mornings !! i used to need to "sinemet myself " first thing in the morning (around 8.30 ) because i had no other choice.. now i mostly only need it around 1 pm...and there has been a few days at 4pm...even 6 pm once...so i really see that something good is going on with the Nicotine...i don't have the impression to be declining....it's the opposite ! i am gaining little by little , some health back... in the next 2 or 3 years, some Big Labs will put the Nicotine patch on the PD market, and they will be marketing it as "Pure therapeutic Nicotine "...and my guess is they will make them more expensive than the OTC ones |

Villiers,
Did you have any side effects when you first started using the nicotine patch. I take mucuna pr. and sinemet. Do you think I can still using the nicotine patch, and you stated that you can take the patch off at night. Glad to hear that you are doing well.
