This is a new book out by Dr. Michael Okun, Medical Director of NPF. It is an excellent read on living with Parkinson's.
We should give this to new members with their membership card! The book is: "Parkinson's Treatment, 10 Secrets to a Happier Life" I got it from Amazon, 4 bucks for the Kindle download. |

I ordered 10 copies of this book for our Parkinson's Support Group because we get new members every month and their anxiety level is palpable. This book will help answer their questions and help them feel that all is not lost. I love Dr. Okun's book because it is full of hope and respect for all Parkinson's patients. I am rereading the chapter on DBS because I think that's where we are with my husband. This book helps me understand and gives context to the research summaries that I am reading but don't really understand. I hope the next edition enlarges the print-it's kind of small. Thanks Dr. Okun for this very special book!

I read the book last week. Michael Okun has done a wonderful job of explaining the complex science behind PD in plain english. It is chock full of information on medications (old and new), procedures (particularly DBS) and routines (e.g. exercise), presented in an upbeat and hopeful manner. I highly recommend that newly DXed PWP read it!
