Question Gastroparesis

Does anyone have Gastroparesis?

If so, have you had a Gastric Electrical Stimulator installed or had to begin a totally liquid diet or any kind of surgery?

If so, does it work for you?

My last upper GI showed that the meal I ate 17 hours prior still in my stomach...I saw the pictures...not pretty. I am miserable

Gastroparesis or slow stomach can be miserable, particularly when one is trying to manage medication on a tight schedule. Diabetics can really have it rough, but it is bad enough with PD. I'm not sure if it is the disease or the meds.

In any case, I have had very good results with ginger extract first thing in the morning. There is decent Chinese research backing it up. Another that I haven't tried is rhubarb extract and, again, with Chinese work published. Yet another that I have tested and found promising is aloe although I haven't checked the literature. Finally, anything that tastes bitter (often the reason that it is in a capsule anyway) has the potential to be of help. The GI system responds when the bitter tastebuds are triggered.

Interesting, Everett, thanks. The liquid diet today has made a world of difference already.

I will check these out.

Default A liquid diet makes sense

Because the valve that releases "chyme" to the small intestine's "job" is not to pass anything that could give rise to a possible bowel obstruction. You can make a liquid diet just as interesting, tasty, and containing all necessary components, you just have change the way you prepare your food, and it can be monotonous. If stomach accident and enzymes are low, for any reason, digestion will be slower, even though your food is more finely divided. I find the best thing to "moving" the stomach contents and the alimentary canal in general is to keep moving, and that's not easy for some of us, as the more we advance the more we tend to just sit in a chair all day. Drugs are available to help with this problem.
