Default High dose statins prevent dementia

so does exercise and the mediterranean diet? drug companies love this research, health in a pill. but i guess if you can't exercise or afford that diet, a pill is better than nothing.

Default cognitive dysfunction and statin use

Must first disregard that Black Box warning on ALL statins noting an increased incidence of cognitive dysfunction with the use of statins, as well as that "small" increase in Diabetes type 2 associated with statin use (though the studies documented up to an 18% increase in type 2 DM--I do not consider that small)

Statins cross the BBB, completely interfere with the production of brain cholesterol which is essential for memory, learning, and thought formation. These mental functions are dependent upon the formation of synapses. Research in the late 1990's pointed to a compound made by glial cells to be responsible for the formation of synapses.

Research in 2001, by Mauch, et al., published in volume 294 of Science magazine, discovered that the compound was "cholesterol".

In addition, statins interrupt the production of dolichols which constitute the largest % of fats within neuromelanin (that substance that is a MAJOR antioxidant within the substantia nigra which protects neurons).

Statins deplete coenzyme q10--that compound found to be deficient in ALL PD patients. coenzyme q10 acts as a catalyst for complex 1 of the electron transport chain--thus statins potentially alter the function of this essential biochemical function. Recall that many of the identified genetic mutations linked to PD directly affect complex 1 of the electron transport chain--ie LRRK2, Pink, Parkin

With increased incidence of Diabetes associated with statin use, recall Alzheimer's is increased in individuals with diabetes type 2.

Stephanie Sneff, an MIT researcher, has noted an increased incidence of alzheimer's in individuals who stopped their statins. She maintains that statins interfere with cell mitosis, cause beginning symptoms of alzheimer's; the statin is stopped and full blown alzheimer's occurs. and stopping the statin is registered as "associated with the onset" of alzheimer's.

Just the other side of that suggestion
