Does anyone know if any studies have been made on the root kava kava in relation to PD? I have read it must not be taken if you are taking PD meds. However, I am not yet, and wondered if it could be beneficial. I have been diagnosed for two and a half years and feel in need of something but worried about taking the drug route yet.

Kava Kava gives me a relaxing feeling. I don't know about taking it with PD meds? Ask a knowledgable doctor. I suggest trying to go drug free as long as possible. They are powerfull and have many known and unknown effects. Only you can make this decision. I would recommend Valerian, Passionflower and or Kava Kava. Valerian is great for anxiety and getting to sleep at night. Passionflower a little milder effect than valerian. Some people may prefer Kava Kava. My all time favorite is Valerian. The tincture works great, follow instructions on bottle or try the root in a capsule form for Anxiety or 45 minutes before bed. Has a mild calming sedative effect.

Thank you bad boy (an interesting name). I have read kava relaxes the muscles, but definitely reacts badly with PD drugs. Apparently it is banned from being sold in Britain, which is where I live.Does it ease your PD symptoms? How long have you been diagnosed?

I had a moderate amount of success with passionflower but some interesting dreams. I took it for a couple - three months then stopped because I started sleeping through most of the night ( with only one nocturnal wee, which is a REAL accomplishment for me!!) all on my own. I still dont achieve the well rested sleep of my younger days but can still get out of bed and go to work. Good luck.

It does ease my symptoms somewhat but again I mostly use Valerian or Passionflower for anxiety and sleep purposes. Those seem to work the best for my needs at this time. Diagnosed roughly 2.5 years.
