yep, dr. levesque at cedar sinai implanted dennis turner with autologous stem cells and even though he started a company to commercialize the tech, turner was his only patient.
i remember seeing both of them testify before senator brownback hearing on adult stem cells, MJF testified, i think it was 2003, 2004. turner did get much better and then deteriorated, might have just been placebo. all sorts of stem cell, fetal cell, swine cell treatments almost ready to trial, first patient was implanted last month with encapsulated swine cells that excrete growth factors. the study being funded by patients in calif uses their skin cells. never forget, some fetal transplant had good results which lasted over 10 years, at least that's my understanding. |

Looks promising. But something tells me that this kind of new therapies are decades in the future. Wouldn't make much of a difference in my life.

If you have done any reading at all about PD, you should know that you can live decades...many folks here are living proof of that. I would never be so bold as to try to predict what brilliant minds all over the planet might accomplish, or when. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt...it's only our lives we are talking about |
