Default PDF researcher Ahead of game

James Beck, PhD VP of Scientific Affairs, has been talking about this for some time. I cannot recall if it was commented on here or in a discussion at the PDF blog site.

Below is the post from yesterday:
http://blog.pdf.org/2013/11/25/genet...ting-it-right/

Jim is a brilliant researcher, yet has a way of explaining difficult concepts through common analogies. He has been on top of this direct-to-consumer genetic testing for some time.

Read his interesting blog entry at the above link

Default accuracy of 23andme testing

a report from an N of 1. A geneticist whom we consulted for interpretation/recommendations about my husband's genomic results from 23andme demanded retesting from his source prior to the appointment. The results from both entities were exactly the same. The one difference: we had to pay a lot more than $99 for the lab tests from the geneticist's source.
I know 23andme has been well funded; i cannot imagine this company producing a product that is inaccurate. Perhaps I am naive.
I am so impressed with the FDA's concern about my receiving information about mutations that impact drug metabolism. And that I might stop a drug that is reported to be inadequately detoxified from the body because of a mutation. This was an actual expressed concern over individuals using information from 23andme--the drug metabolism information. I can only wish we had that info prior to my husband taking Lipitor!
