Default l-carnosine ANYONE TRYING?

I just ordered a bottle of l-carnosine to try...read an article about the possibility of it helping neurons work more efficiently. Has anyone tried it yet for PD?

I have taken L-carnosine in the form of Life Extension's Mitochondrial Energy Optimizer with PQQ for quite some time. I can't say that it has improved symptoms but my hope is that it is one more tool to tame the beast over the long run.

Yes and with some success. There is one problem in that timing is critical. The carnosine is amino acids that need uptake and compete with ldopa. You need to send in the carnosine just as the ldopa reaches a high point. Kind of like conducting a tiny orchestra.

Currently (2011) taking 200/50 Sinemet CR 8 times a day + 10/100 Sinemet 3 times a day. Functional 90% of waking day but fragile. Failure at exercise but still trying. Constantly experimenting. Beta blocker and ACE inhibitor at present. Currently (01/2013) taking ldopa/carbadopa 200/50 CR six times a day + 10/100 form 3 times daily. Functional 90% of day. Update 04/2013: L/C 200/50 8x; Beta Blocker; ACE Inhib; Ginger; Turmeric; Creatine; Magnesium; Potassium. Doing well.

I went back to Dr Laurie Mischley's book "Natural Therapies for Parkinson's Disease" She does not mention l- carnosine, but has a page on carnitine which she states is derived from the amino acid lysine * that it plays a part in reducing brain injury associated with mitochondrial neurodegenerative disorders. She suggests that if you don't eat meat, that you should take a carnitine supplement. I wonder if fresh eggs count for meat source ...I do have chickens...don't eat the chickens,.... but eat eggs.

Started taking a capsule of l-carnosine on Friday with breakfasts. I seem more tired, but perhaps it is because I have been stressed out about my rooster attacking me and knowing he will have to go in a stew. He is really beautiful and has always been a gentleman until Friday and did an all out attack Sunday morning when I was all ready for church...I went anyway , but shook for an hour and cried for the first time in ages , I was so upset (also, had chicken foot prints on the front of my skirt) It is truly amazing what stress does to agrevate symptoms! Perhaps I will get back to normal again. (Did fix the tiny chicken door so that I can open it from the outside of the chicken house to let them out into the outside enclosure so the rooster doesn't fly in my face when I open the coop door........was real proud of myself too! Life on the farm..
Blessed to be able to have chickens and fresh eggs....Aunt Bean
