Unfortunately I do not remember the name of the test. You know, I realize I have no business asserting anything. I am new here and generally new to PD. Please accept my apologies!

University of Texas Medical School in Houston
[Neuroimaging including spine and brain CT, MRI, functional MRI, DAT scan, FDG PET, and SPECT.]

It would be interesting to know what MRI test they did for your husband.
I see the DaTscan has been in Texas for a few years now..so it may have been it.

[DaT scans may become a critical tool is assisting in the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. However, at this point, Parkinson’s disease is still something a physician, ideally a neurologist, must diagnosis. For classic cases of Parkinson’s disease, it is unlikely that most neurologists would order a DaT scan as they would feel confident in the diagnosis.

It is again important to state that the DaT scan is not going to be helpful in differentiating Parkinson’s disease from the related atypical parkisnonian syndromes. Still, if you are curious if a DaT scan may be appropriate for you, it is best to talk with your neurologist and discuss the pluses and minuses of pursuing this testing.]

Jo Mar I would be glad to tell you if I could remember it. I just remember Dr. Tintner called it an MRI and that it was new and definitive. I also do not remember them injecting dye as was stated in the DAT SCAN. But we have had a very rocky year; I am exhausted and my memory is not best right now. Since we no longer go to Dr Tintner I cannot ask him. We have found an 83 year old Neurologist who still practices and is the gentlest doctor I have ever known. He offices both in Houston but also one morning a week in our small town about 75 miles away because he weekends at his ranch here. I enjoy how he combines todays ideas with ones he used 50 years ago in problem solving. I wish I could answer your question.

I apologise if my reply in any way was off putting. You have every right to post here.
I will add that you will find some of these people have been studying their disease for a long time so there is alot of collective knowledge here. It can be rather daunting.

Dilmar you were not offputting. I agree there is so much combined knowledge to be found in this group! So I did not want to some off as an authority when I know so little. I do not have a support group anywhere near me so I just soak up all of your posts as well as marvel that they come from around the world! Just reading what you all are going through increases my understanding by leaps and bounds as well as making me feel less alone thus giving me great comfort!
