Default historical food pyramid comparison, not good

interesting....grains now form the base of the food pyramid (a whopping 9-11 servings a day) with oils at the very top (so we are to eat the least of those). I find this incredible, given that our brains need copious amounts of fat to function properly and grains offer very little nutrition for the calories they contain. So I looked up what the food pyramid used to be way back when, and what it is today. Very different. Why?

One website claims the farming and food manufacturer lobbies got involved and lobbied hard to get their crops into more products.... and to convince more people to eat those products, the government redid the pyramid. Here is one article about this:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/0...-Us-Fat-Update

As usual, all one needs to do is follow the money and it all becomes clear

Now, it could be that all those pesticides and insecticides on all that grain we have been increasingly eating for the past sixty-plus years are a cause of the increasing chronic illnesses in this country, but I can't help but wonder if it's actually the change in diet itself.

We balk at the difficulty of eating the 9-11 servings of vegetables Dr. Wahls recommends, but seem to have no problem chowing down the same amount (or more) of bloating wheat, corn, rice, or other grains daily. Notice that Dr. Wahls cut all grains from her diet early on, to see what effect it had. Her diet includes very, very few grains, and if I remember correctly, next to no wheat or corn.

Dr. Wahls has done really well on her dietary regime, which very closely resembles how people used to eat long ago. So have many people who have started eating the way she recommends.

Even if you cannot muscle down the 9 cups of veggies every day that Wahls recommends, perhaps we should try simply cutting out grains as much as possible to see if that helps. Rick has mentioned even a small amount of gluten knocks him back for a week, and we've read of anecdotal reports of other PWP who have improved with reduced or eliminated wheat and/or grain.

Has anyone tried that?

Thought the food triangle was replaced by my plate some time ago. Can't see where the whopping grain reference is from but this is US guidelines, each country has their own.

Lurkingforacure have you tried Dr Wahls diet and if so how do you find it?
