Default New Study - Real Time Tracking of PD Symptoms and Progression

I just notice a very interesting new clinical study that opened up recently. I've already spoken with the trial team and have enrolled.

Smartphone-PD: Mobile Technology to Track and Quantify Parkinson Disease in Real-Time

The purpose of this study is to accomplish the following objectives:

1. We would like to see if it is feasible for participants to download, install, and use an Android smartphone application to track data related to Parkinson disease symptoms. We will collect data actively, by asking participants to complete movement tests at home, and passively, by collecting data from your phone throughout the day, such as your location, the number of phone calls that you make and the duration of these calls; and the number and length of text messages that you make. The mobile application will not collect phone numbers and text messages related to you or those who are in contact with you, and it will not record phone calls or save text messages.

2. We want to measure the daily variability of other important movement and mobility characteristics of Parkinson disease.

3. We want to see if changes measured by the Android phone application compare with the clinician's assessment of a subset of patients.

The study will monitor gait, balance, posture, finger tapping, and voice.

It requires a few minutes a day of active involvement and the rest is passive monitoring while the phone is in your pocket. You have the ability to stop the app at anytime for any reason with one push of the button. You can also miss active involvement, although its encouraged to participate as much as possible. The only real requirement is to have a smartphone using Android software (sorry, no iPhones allowed). I personally think this is a wonderful step into the future. Not only for research purposes, which we have discussed on this board many times. It also opens the door for real time monitoring of PD patients who require it.

The team is looking for 1,500 PwP and 500 healthy controls. If you have the ability to participate, and want more information, here is the FTF link:
