Depends - helpful for what in particular? I found it gave subtle relief for somethings, particularly tremor and aches and also most significantly was very relaxing.

I had weekly treatment for 18 months prior to dx, it helped for a few days then wore off, but was consistently helpful for the 3-4 days it worked. I could not afford it in the long term, or increase treatments to twice a week. Sinemet gave better relief once I was dx'ed, and remained very helpful till relatively recently, so I have felt no urge for more acupuncture. A good acupuncturist will not have a set treatment for PD, but will keep balancing things according to need. This is perhaps something we do need, and which our chemical medication does not allow for.
Really it's a matter of personal choice, and it's efficacy will always be in the skill of the practitioner. |

Chinese medicine as a whole is incredible and has been found to be beneficial for those with PD.

I have acupuncture every 10-12 days for about the last 2 yrs. It eliminates my tremor when I'm getting treatment but doesn't sustain that once tx is over. I continue because the MD says it helps with inflammation and keeps me flexible. I think it helps me but I'm sort of holding my own with this PD so scared to stop doing anything in my current tx. My acupuncturist specializes in tremors and also does acupuncture at the NIH.
