I am 60 and got my Parkinson's dx November 2010.
I have a forty-year background in natural medicine, but all my attempts to address the symptoms of PD are failing. I'm scared to take sinemet because my body is extremely sensitive, and due to a childhood trauma, I have significant difficulty dealing with nausea and/or vomiting. I recently tried just one-fourth of a 25/100 sinemet. I got such severe nausea and dizziness, it brought back ancient memories of bad LSD! I tried it again the next day and had the same experience, plus a severe headache. A Parkinson's support group in the UK recommended Domperidone, an anti-nausea drug. I tried half a tablet and experienced two days of horrendous nausea and a severe migraine. My doc said I am beyond the point of being able to effectively use an agonist. I'm seriously running out of options. Can anyone share a positive sinemet nausea-conquering story? Any other suggestions? Current Acute Symptoms - November 2014 - Tremor: strongest in right arm and hand, right side of body; sometimes tremor in left hand; constant tremor in jaw. Tremor in right arm can get so severe it causes severe pain and it feels like arm is going to snap off. - Difficulty speaking speaking above a whisper, also enunciating. Tendency to drool, difficulty swallowing. I have had 2 serious choking incidents. - Deterioration of motor skills: great difficulty moving body - difficulty walking, right leg drags, difficulty turning in bed, difficulty moving arms, especially right arm, difficulty getting up and sitting down. All movement is extremely slow and takes great concentration to do. Any reply is most appreciated. Michael |

I take the Hinz protocol. It eliminates nausea or other side effects according to them. It certainly did so for me. You can read about it at http://neurosciencemyths.com/Parkinson's-disease.htm
Also, I no longer have tremors. Why I don't know. A layman's description can be found at http://brainbodystore.com/wp-content...ns-article.pdf Best of luck!

You might want to try and stick with the anti emetic drug domperidone for a while. Take it 1/2 to 1 hr before a whole Sinemet and same before a meal for now. It sounds like you're symptomatic enough that you'd benefit from 100mg of Sinemet at each dosage. I had nausea before with PD meds but got over it eventually as have others I know of. If you stick with it you'll find a big relief from your PD symptoms I think. I too hate nausea and vomiting but on the other hand have had PD long enough to know that Sinemet can be a huge relief so hang in there! |

25mg of sinemet is a tiny amount of drug, i doubt any gets to your brain. it does seem to be affecting in an extreme way the cells that affect your balance that are outside the brain.
is there a remote chance you are sensitive to the yellow coloring? can you tolerate a baby aspirin which is usually yellow? the 25/250 tablet is blue, you could dissolve it in water to get a small dose. you can dissolve a 25mg of a 25/100 tab in 2 cups of water and 200-500mg vitamin C powder and drink half of the mixture to get the l-dopa down to 12.5mg. you can use whatever proportions you want with this system. it would be interesting if you could do an experiment and try a placebo to see how much of this is mental, would take a friend to prepare the liquid l-dopa and the placebo. While I was finding the correct dosage for me I experienced nausea the first two weeks as well as each dose increase. It did pass for me now that I am on a steady dose. I also found that mucuna pruriens makes me nausea as well.
I have an acquaintance that swears by puffing a bit of cannabis for his nausea. He also puffs a bit for his overall symptoms of nausea, rigidity, pain and depression. He swears by it. He still needs his Sinemet but swears that it hammers all of the other symptoms and requires less of a dose as well. |

Gerry I am starting the protocol in December with your M.D. How can I get up to my therapeutic dose as quickly as possible? Any tips to avoid delays with testing, etc. Anything else you feel like sharing that might be important.

I mix my powders in a 4 oz ointment jar, add water, and shake it well. Then I gulp it down quickly. It doesn't taste bad and this is more convenient than a blender. I do put my morning dose in a blender with vanilla almond milk and other nutrients. My unmedicated symptoms are walking difficulties, anxiety, and orthostatic hypotension. I used to have tremors and dystonia but those have gone away. On my powders I don't have any of those symptoms. Constipation is still a problem, though. Good luck and let us know how you do.
