But I will report at least one more time on what I consider a bloomin' miracle.
I am in week nine or so and am still blown away by how well this stuff works. I have cut back on meds, increased their spacing, and am getting better results. In fact I feel that I am getting better across the board. Turning in bed, which once was an agony of frustration, is now a non-issue. I am taking a last dose of meds at 2:00 PM and often going well until an 11 PM bedtime. Daytime "offs" were near incapacitating but are almost unknown now. Bladder control is also almost a non-issue now. Stamina is great. Going all day long. Stress no longer has a hold on my symptoms. Pulse rate has dropped from mid-90s to mid-70s. Blood pressure is at 130 to 135 over 90 to 93 despite my having stopped taking hyzaar a month ago. Those readings are very similar to what I had when I was taking it. Sleeping well. Wake in better condition than before. You have to understand that I was in a bad way when I started this the end of May. Off most of the day. Routinely going off in public or feeling it coming just making it home and struggling to get from truck to house. Freezing so bad that lost bladder control trying to get to john, twice. Losing entire days. Had a three day period when I could not leave house. The only negatives noted are low level dyskinesias a wearing off phase but they respond to dosage manipulation. I know of one other PWP who is trying this and started about the same time. He reports almost identical results.

I am interested in this. I looked for ginseng but could only find American ginseng and nor red Chinese ginseng. Does it also have to be labeled "red" and "Chinese". How much do you and should I take? I thought you once said 500 mg per day.

The important parts are "panax" (the species) and "red" (the way it is prepared).
In the US it should be in any health food store. I am taking a 500 mg capsule 3 to 4 X daily.

Week 13- Three or four days ago I began slipping backwards and day before yesterday I was back to the state that I was in the last of May just before beginning this experiment - namely almost unable to walk. Having grown fond of functioning all day long I was understandably perturbed. OK, I was within a half day of freakin' out.
But my motto is "Remain calm, it improves your aim." So I thought it through and found the problem. It seems that because of schedules I had been relying on a bottle that I had in the car. Now, around here it has been hitting 100F. So, to cut to the heart of the matter, ginseng loses its punch if it gets too hot. And I am back in the saddle again. This confirms the symptom relief aspects of this herb. Once again it has taken me from wheelchair material to passing for normal.

This stuff works. Since adding ginseng, ginger, tumeric, d3, ashwaganda, to a balanced wheat, sugar, and caffienne free diet, there is no doubt in my mind you have hit on something here. It's great this thread resurfaces from time to time so that newbies can access the neccessary information to (hopefully) improve their condition.

I was beginning to grind my darned teeth in frustration. Didn't think anyone was paying attention and all the while knowing something was working big time. Much thanks and glad it is working for both of us. Three, actually, as I know of one other getting similar results. It is real!

on your experience with ginseng administration. And just for your information, In Chinese tradition, ginseng is a kind of energizer and able to "warm up" your body. Thus, it should be taken during winter time when weather is cold. And for person with weak body built-up, which I would interpret it to refer to people with chronic disease, say PD, long term administration would be helpful given that the amount of intake must be moderate and carefully monitored to ripe its long term benefit. BUT one remark: Korean has different tradition in the function of ginseng and they take it all year round.
All the best LING |

Thank you for your work on this.I have a couple of questions on which I would just like your thoughts.Do you think the gingseng just helps symptomatic relief or do you think it might have a long term benefit? Does it appear to work on the drugs to make them more effective and long lasting or on the disease itself? If just on Requip with few symptoms except tremor do you feel it worth taking or better to keep for later.?

Rick -
I've been trying a little ginsing (about 100mg., three times a day) and don't have it figured out yet, but it definitely does something! That I have more energy is for sure. However, I have had what I think is dyskinesia (have to keep wiggling in my chair) with ginsing added to my regular dose of Sinemet and Mirapex --- so then dropped the Sinemet dose some (by 1/3) and virtually couldn't walk. NOW, I'm looking for that happy medium....thanks for all your work and reporting on this! Sasha |
