My daughter wrote to the Italian authors of this paper seeking clarification :

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23986125

They said it is best to have intramuscular injections twice weekly, 100 mg thiamine. If you have to make do with oral treatment they recommend 4 grams daily, of thiamine, 2 g in the morning and 2 g at lunch.

My daughter asked them to specify the form of thiamine and they said use water soluble as fat soluble DOES NOT cross the blood brain barrier. I take it that means thiamine is correct, Benfotiamine is not. They suggest using Solgar 500 mg caps. But Source Naturals b1 is cheaper.

Default Status update?

Muireann, thanks for this helpful information. Have you pursued this treatment, and if so, have you seen any benefit?

Sim00, it was great to hear that you were doing so well a couple months ago. Would you be able to share an update of your progress with this treatment? I hope that you have continued to experience good benefits.

Many thanks!

Hi,
regarding to this kind of treatment I can say to be very satisfied, in the sense to feel greater strength and resistance, which allows me to work better, for example.
Right now I am doing three injections a week.

Hi Sim this your post has brought me here. I would like to know how you give yourself IM injection. I have bought ampules and so. Do you give in the leg, or buttocks or shoulder. Do you change sides. Do you use a filter needle, to take up the vitamin from ampule? can you please help me?

Thanks

I tried the other B1 vitamin but it didn't work for me . Benfotiamine is water and fat soluble. It works for me at 250mg and I take R alpha Lipoic Acid with it 100 mg. Both twice a day. And I will try the Reishi mushroom too. Between the vitamins and DBS I am doing very well! But every Parkie is different.

[QUOTE=TryingMyBest;1279375] . Benfotiamine is fat soluble too which means that at high levels it can be toxic as it is stored in fatty tissues.

Just a heads up that it caused me a high pulse heart rate with what I felt was flutterings...which happens to be a side effect! So I imediately stopped the B1 but still doing the R Alpha Lipoic Acid, and my heart rate stabilized and was lowered. For exercise I should walk. But yoga works for me.
