Sadly the abstract doesn't give anything away and the study is quite pricey. Does anyone out there have access to this study?

Breezy, this was a "review" (and a very good one), not a research study. There was no new information, and the review itself is a little outdated as it was done four years ago. The authors concluded that curcumin has been shown to be effective, like many other agents (e.g. CoQ10, creatine, etc) in pre-clinical models of PD. It targets multiple degenerative pathways, including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and protein aggregation. It may also restore neuronal function in the substantia nigra. However, they also concluded that the therapeutic application of curcumin in PD is limited by its poor bioavailability. There was nothing in this review that suggested that taking a daily supplement of curcumin would give you symptomatic relief. Of course, if it really does have the ability to restore neuronal functioning (which is a big if), there would be symptomatic benefits some time later on.
Use of curcumin as a potential neuroprotective agent has been discussed many times in the past on this board. You can search it here very easily. As I previously stated, it's one of the more common supplements used by the many people with PD that I know. I would suggest that you do some research on the type (manufacturer) that you take. I use two types, Longvida and Super-Bio from Life Extension.
