Default High Plasma Dopamine

One of the things I've been tested for in my quest for diagnosis is pheochromocytoma, so I got a catecholamine test. This is a test of Adrenalin, Epinephrine and dopamine in plasma. When I took that test, Adrenalin and Epineprine were normal but dopamine was high. The endo said it was high but not concerning since it was not very high.

Ever since then I've wondered if the high plasma dopamine was related to all my neuro symptoms. In the literature all I can find for indications is a high salt diet and a rare tumor called a neuroblastoma. I looked specifically for plasma dopamine values as they relate to PD but I never found a study.

Anybody have any info on this, either formal or anecdotal? Thank you!

dopamine doen't pass thru the blood brain barrier so blood concentrations doesn't reflect what's in your brain. it doesn't get in and it doesn't leak out. if your're taking a pd drug, carbidopa/levodopa, might be of value to see how much l-dopa is getting converted to dopamine before it gets to your brain. thus very few pd'ers get tested for blood dopamine.

best of luck.
