Not a cure but major relief from tremors. My Neurologist added this anti depresent to my other meds and I have had near zero tremors during the past week. No side effects have been noticed.

MIRTAZAPINE 15 mg once daily at bedtime. My other meds are as follows;

Levo/carb 100/25 mg 4 times daily
Pramipexole o.25 mg 3 times daily

The N'gist has had similar results with other patients.

I hope this info helps. I'm 73 with advanced PD and I FEEL GREAT - so far.

JUST AN UPDATE.

10 days tremor free in hands and jaw although the other symptoms persist, howerver, this relief has been a God send. Still no noticeable side effects.

Another update;

Like I said 'not a cure' but it sure is helping. 16 days without aany type of tremors and no sidee effects that I have noticed. '

To give the readers some perspective, my symptoms were so bad that 1 week before Rick E. passed away I tried the same thing and failed. Thhis week, I put sheet rock in a bedroom in my house and only normal aches andd pains. No tremors.

I'm normally a minimalist when it comes to medication and the N'gist had to talk long and hard to get me to take what is normaly a med for people who were depressed. Thanks Dr. for your persitance that I try it.


Ill keep posting the progress (I hope) as and/if it keeps up.

Another update; Still no tremors since 09 Jan when the Mirazapine was added to the other meds but still the other PD symptoms remain. HOWEVERI'll take this any day. It has given me back a large portion of my life. I can do physical labour 75% of a work day, minor of course. Still no negative side effects that I can identify or connect with the anti depresant.

I wonder if it is the Mirazapine or would other anti depresants do the same or is it my body chemistry or just plain luck that it is doing this for me?

fINALLY, I have been able to quit drinking with a straw and don't feel uncomfortable when we go out for dinnder. I'll keep updating this as the PD does what it does.. Here's hoping.

Just a word of advice for those thinking of using MIRTAZAPINE. Do not take it with a MAO-B inhibitor like Rasagiline (Azilect). It could cause a dangerous interaction.

According to this post Mirtazipine can be taken with Azilect. It seems to be helping this man too. I don't suffer from tremors so won't be trying it.

I have been in some heated discussions over the years regarding Azilect as contra indicated with anti depressants because advice varies between countries espec between US and UK which I presume may be to do with FDA requirements or similar. Also advice evolves and changes with time, research and experience so I also I find it is worth checking the dates on information.
